The Argentina Independent is organising a fundraising event this Saturday (20 April) in aid of the victims of the floods in La Plata in which over 50 people lost their lives. All proceeds will go to Red Solidaria, an NGO which is taking a lead role in the relief efforts.
The devastating floods led to immense damage and losses in the Buenos Aires’ provincial capital, and many neighbourhoods remain without power, hampering efforts to help those who have lost their homes and livelihoods and continue to be without basic resources.
In the first of its kind, this will be a simultaneous fundraising event in conjunction with the Argentine community in London co-hosted by ARenIN and APARU. For details of the London event, please visit ARenIN’s facebook page.
The Buenos Aires event, which will be hosted at Oasis Clubhouse in the heart of Palermo, and will include many activities, including comedy from GrinGo! Stand Up in English, music by Melanie Isabel, and a raffle with the following prizes confirmed (so far!):
- Meals at Jueves a la Mesa
- Tours of the Palacio Barolo
- Meals at La Fabrica Del Taco
- Shopping tour for four people with Creme de la Creme
- Two week free pass for Boot Camp Buenos Aires

Let me make sure I get it right. 50 people lost their lives and these guys are running a standup comedy event with a giveaway of coupons for free yoga classes?

We have a couple of posts here describing how to make a donation. Please, post some more for people who would rather skip the entertainment part.

No, it is not a stand up comedy event, that happened last Saturday night in La Plata:

This event is a fundraiser for Red Solidaria and we are trying to make it interesting and fun so that people will show up and give money while also having a good night out. The two goals are not mutually exclusive. If you would rather donate directly and miss out on the evening, of course there is nothing stopping you and by all means, please go ahead and do that. The more donations the better.

Can you give a break down of where exactly the money is going?

As it says right in the beginning of the post, all the money raised is going to Red Solidaria, the one of the main NGOs coordinating the relief efforts.

And what are "[background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]Red Solidaria" going to do with the money?[/background]

Its important to know that this Red Solidaria aren't going to get a massive cut of this money to blow on whatever.

Anyway aren't the Ks multimillionaires, they should be the ones fixing this.

They are going to help people of La Plata. Check out their website for more information. They are highly respected and do good work. Look, all we want to do is help and so we are helping. I don't really feel like battling it out here on baexpats, I just naively though that people might be interested in knowing about this event where they can have a good time while also giving money to charity to help out a good cause. It's not that hard or complicated.
