I live in Monserrat Iam a local the neighborhood is not bad neither the best of course is safer during the day and at night not so bad but to take precautions, take a taxi if you go back home late and have the phone number of a taxi company as soon as you arrive as radiotaxi that is safe and call them from where you are, this is even safer. I have been living here for 9 years I never had a problem. You will be close to an area of good restaurants I don`t think you will have problems but always keep an eye on who is next you I wish you the best I live at a few blocks from there.

Thanks everyone... the responses have been great (including the debate on the boundaries of Palermo).

Speaking of Palermo, I know that street art is quite expressive there - so does anyone know or recommend a cheap, cool, fun hostel in Palermo or around there?
