My FBI Background Check Experience

Could you Americans explain me why you need the FBI's go-ahead when leaving the US? Is it one of those post 9-11 security measures?

You need the FBI background check to apply for residency in Argentina. Possibly for other types of visas too??

Argentine migraciones requires criminal background checks of all foreigners seeking temporary or permanent residency in Argentina. It has nothing to do with 9-11 or the US government. In fact , US citizens do not have anything stamped in thier passports when departing the US, only when reentering.

All visas are "resident" visas (transitoria, temporaria, or permanente).

Touché. I guess I was thinking that work visas might be different than other resident visas. I really only have info about residency through marriage and don´t know how the other types work.
