Native English Speaker Desperately seeking ANY work

The eminent and easily googleable research scientist Dr Brooke Magnanti found a useful source of extra income whilst studying for her PhD. She too was living in a foreign country but I don't think she would have described her position as desperate because she was moonlighting as a computer programmer at the time. I think that she just found the other opportunities more interesting ;)
