I think it's hilarious when people expect roses and perfume and get truth and call it excrement. Trolls trying to say we are negative and suggesting a social network without offering any advice whatsoever, while another on here offered a room to rent (one of the things the OP was looking for) and is castigated. Hahaha.
Oh well. I was going to reply before, don't remember why I didn't, but here goes.
You can find work here. There are even places that will hire foreigners (very, very few) at decent wages because they are sort of specialty places and they worry about hiring Argentinos because of the serious problems that many Argentinos give employers related to the labor laws here (I'm talking about Argentinos taking advantage of the laws, not working within them). The places I mention are often run by expats of many nationalities, not just "gringo" (of any descent) expats.
The reality is, getting one of those jobs would be like winning a small lottery. The majority of non-resident jobs (i.e., in the black) are not very good. We are talking the equivalent of 400-700 USD a month, upon which one can certainly live here, but not very comfortably at all.
There are some companies who will sponsor a person for a visa, but they are even rarer than decently-paid "expat jobs". More likely to find one if you are already here and actively looking for work, rather than someone trying to apply from abroad to have such a job lined up. Or, you could find a company in your home country that has openings in Argentina, get hired on with them and get transferred to here.
The reality is the economy is not good and people line up for blocks to apply for good jobs here, quite often. These are Argentinos waiting in line. If you are looking for a good job here that takes English as a good thing - there are tens of thousands of Argentinos that speak both Spanish AND English that would be in line in front fo you, for the most part. They may be that one job in many that may be perfect for you, but good luck finding it.
The reality is many shop owners close their doors when they go on vacation because they 1) don't often hire anyone outside their immediate family and 2) when they do, they watch the "outsiders" like hawks and would never dream of leaving someone who is not an owner in charge of the store while they're gone. This is not a trusting society (even though many say it's polite).
The reality is that it is a whole lot easier to live here as a non-resident and have a job from outside the country than it is to live in the country as a non-resident and have a good job. Happens, rarely, but I have never depended on the lottery for my happiness and well-being.
It really cracks me up that someone in this day and age doesn't know what a PM is - I know, it happens, but hey. But even given the context, people should be able to figure out that Philip's post was a helpful one and not a threat, if not by looking at it, then at least by looking at previous posts from Philip and realizing he is a helpful, productive member of the forum and doesn't usually go around requesting photos (nude or otherwise) of newcomers looking on the board for help.
Wow.
