Hi guys,

Ok... after reading a whole stack of posts, I am really confused as to what I should do.

I came to Argentina for a 10 week holiday in September last year and fell in love with the country and a man (lame). I went back to Australia for a couple of weeks, came back for a month (Dec) and then had to return to Australia for some circumstances in my family. In mid March I returned to Buenos Aires and have now been here 3 months on Thursday (16th).

My boyfriend and I had booked to spend the weekend in Carmelo for my first "visa run" (I visited Colonia the first time I was here on holiday so I wanted to see somewhere different), but I unfortunately got very sick and with a 40degree fever obviously couldn´t travel. Because the hospital and clinic I went to gave me medical certificates, we will be able to use the tickets at another date but obviously that won´t help with my visa situation.
Today is the first day that I´m functioning normally again so I have spent the morning trying to work out my options... To be honest I feel more confused than before and I am a bit worried because I am almost out of time to work out what I need to do.

I was here for less than 180 days last year, and I have only been here 90 days this year, so I don´t believe (though I could be wrong) that I am abusing the turista visa so far. But I do already have a lot of stamps from visiting Paraguay and Uruguay and going home twice.

Am I able to go into Puerto Madero to try and renew my visa tomorrow? If so, do I need an appointment for that? I have never been there.
I don´t want to just leave it and not renew my visa because we still need to use the tickets for Carmelo, and it sounds like going in and out of Tigre is a bit more difficult anyway. I don´t want to create extra problems! Plus, in the same weekend I got sick our car broke down again, so paying a multa really isn´t something I need right now lol.

Ok so if anyone has any advice, that would be incredible. Thank you :)

there are a million threads++ on this in this forum. don't do anything, pay the overstay fine at the airport on departure.

Haha yes there are many!
Unfortunately that isn´t an option, because I´m going to go to Carmelo in Uruguay in a few weeks, so I will be leaving the country then, and through Tigre which sounds like it is more strict.

Going and having lunch in Colonia (or I think there is an option where there is a 30 minute window) takes significantly less time than dealing with all the BS at migraciones. Furthermore it is only slightly more expensive. And last time I tried at migraciones for an extension they said they couldn't find my arriving flight in Ezeiza so they sent me packing with nothing after 3.5 hours of waiting. The boat trip is quite pleasant and they have wifi.

Thanks :)

Yeah I really didn´t want to go there because it sounds like a nightmare from all the other posts. But I also was worried that if I got a new stamp now, and then went to Uruguay, when I came back into Tigre they might give me a hard time. A bit stupid, but I had never understood that repeated visits to other countries to renew the visa was illegal until I read it in the forum!
I was thinking maybe it was easier to defend my stamps if the latest stamp was from Puerto Madero because I wouldn´t be stealing extra time when I entered Tigre (because they can´t overide the end date).

But if I only have tomorrow to sort this out, and Puerto Madero is not even certain... a solo Colonia visit might be what I have to do.
And in future if I want to stay here longterm just try not to leave the country I guess...

From what I have heard, use Migraciones as a LAST resort. Uruguay can not over-ride the stamp from Migracaiones and can possibly cause problems. They are also a lot more strict and its a long, hell of day waiting there. I just got back from a quick visit to Colonia myself and it was a cake walk. A little chili though so pack a few layers!!

Saludos

You can just pay the fine when you go to Uruguay. I overstayed mine last year by 8 days and I had to pay 300 pesos. It sucked but it´s the same in Migraciones if they approve it at all. You will only have trouble at the border if you overstay multiple times.

Just go with cash and don´t argue, just say you will pay the fine.
