At some degree I'd say Obama is not even advance anything anymore simply bc everything is already under "their" fingertips. There are some "hard-boiled" ones like North Korea, Cuba or Venesuela but they are just an itch for them, not really danger. After USSR has been sold out there is no more outstanding contenders to balance their apetite to rule the World. China is filled out with global companies production lines and investments so no matter how they might be "disagree" at UN talks, they wouldn't do a Grand Sh... to stand against the global elite. Bc the elite in control of them, just as they control Japan. Look in the history of these countries.

So my point is that Obama is a spokesperson, and nothing else, as redrum says.
And to pass a few words about someone's claiming his "truly socialistic" agenda, I'd tell you what a socialistic agenta in reality is. Bc I used to live in there. So mandating your own citizens to purchase their own health insurance under penalty of tax credit in up to $4000/per capita annually is NOT FORKING SOCIALIZM. It's a prison or concentration camp.

In socialist country our Government used to PAY for you medical expenses, so it was free. Do not start on me for a quality of medical service back then. I used to have full spectrum analysis and preparation for eye surgery at Moscow's Stanislav Fedorov's Microsurgical Eye Center back in 1990 and anyone who wants to get it done just have to call and go there for 1 (day). Ask yourself, how much it was back in US to Americans. Did they EVEN had such service back then.
And if you earn something special or come from "service" you could be treated in places like Kirov's Military Medical Academy in S.Petersburg where I've seen soldiers from Egypt and Vietnam so badly wounded, there were our guys from territorial troops as well. And boy, these doctors were trully magicians.
With no single penny out your pocket.

So whoever is looning out there about Obama's Cabinet "socialistic agenda" please, do me your favor, go outside and get some fresh air, throw away your "happy pills" and think again.

Do you ever challenge yourself on this view? Identify what the actual tangible, noticeable differences are between parties, in terms of the policies they propose and implement, and what their effect is on public life?

The realities of politics lie in the gaps. The "trifling" things like abortion, gay marriage, medical funding, budget prioritisation etc. Things that have an enormous impact on millions of people. Skews and changes may be much more subtle than people screaming "socialist! fascist!" would have you believe, but thats not to say they aren't there. Sure, both parties agree on more than they disagree on. This is news?

Take a macro view of policy under the clinton era, then the bush era, and if you honestly don't think there's a single policy or change made in american society which wouldn't have happened under the others stewardship you aren't looking hard enough, or you aren't prepared to accept the differences.

Its the same with pretty much any stable, developed country around the world. There's more agreement than disagreement. Differences tend to be subtle, and fall along ideological lines the electorate can understand.

I don't know who is arguing that left and right represent totally different things. Anyone who does fundamentally doesn't understand what politics is, or what governments do. But equally, I don't understand how people can claim there's no difference between the two. A cursory examination of policy and history demonstrate how the differences are manifested.
