Another fine essay on the new administration (as if one were needed):

After 8 years of the Bush-Cheney nightmare during which we saw the wanton destruction of Afghanistan and Iraq, the cynical negation of centuries of Law designed to protect the most basic human rights and a foreign policy worthy of Genghis Khan, there came along the "Great Black Hope" in the persona of Barack Obama. The collective world consciousness turned uncritically to what was presented as a new era for peace, change and trust in Government.

Never before had one witnessed such an accomplished use of manipulation, propaganda, imagery and public relations wizardry to sell the public a man who was to take the baton from Bush and run with it in the race to destroy the economy, the rights of the people and help birth a nation totally controlled by those who have always lurked in the shadows of power. "Change" was promised and was delivered in the form of a deepening of the already Dystopic nightmare.

Promises were broken with no apology, the same creative legalese that infested the Bush administration, in the form of John Yoo and Alberto Gonzalez, was again used to deny justice to the inmates of Guantanamo, It was used to justify more torture, more destruction of the Constitution and more illegal surveillance of U.S. citizens.

The President that extended the hand of peace to the Muslim world has murdered hundreds of Pakistani men, women and children. The President who promised accountability in Government has filled his staff with lobbyists, banksters and warmongers. His Attorney General refuses to prosecute some of the worst war crimes committed in modern history and continues to give legal cover to criminals who tortured with impunity.

The country has been further bankrupted by the continuing theft of taxpayer money as the Wall St. campaign donors receive their quid pro quo. Obama has stood by idly as Bernancke states that the private Federal Reserve is not answerable to either Congress of the American public. The U.S. taxpayer is now on the hook for $14.3 Trillion and rising. Foreclosures and unemployment are rising with no meaningful efforts by the administration to alleviate the symptoms, never mind the cause. The new image of America is one of tent cities, lengthening soup kitchen lines, sherrifs evicting countless thousands of young and old from their homes, once prosperous towns descending in to an eerie stillness and an increasingly disillusioned populace.

If this is correct -- although I can't seem to find any corroboration of this -- and the US is indeed unconditionally pulling out all its forces from Iraq and closing all its bases there as the result of an Obama initiative, then this is indeed a feather in the cap of Obama and unrelenting critics like myself have been wrong all along.
 
I agree that it's surprising this isn't more widely reported. However, the Independent is a serious newspaper and I'm pretty sure this is factual and what is being reported is more than just window-dressing.

I have no argument with keeping politicians on their toes, that's what democracy should be all about. But I'm also glad you are willing to give credit if it proves to be deserved.

Yes folks, we have a President who thinks he can stimulate the economy by printing more "money," raising your taxes, and spending our grand children's inheritance all to win the votes of illegal immigrants, dead people, and Democrats.


Furthermore, he can't prove he was born in America. According to Obama's
Kenyan (paternal) grandmother, as well as his half-brother and half-sister,
Barack Hussein Obama was born in Kenya, not in Hawaii as he claims.
Before his inauguration, his grandmother bragged that her grandson was
about to be President of the United States and is so proud because she
was present during his birth in Kenya, in the delivery room. This, according
to several news sites and Pennsylvania attorney Philip J. Berg who is a life
long democrat himself. Berg is the former Deputy Attorney General of
Pennsylvania.


The really scary part is that President Obama is NOT an idiot. Every decision he makes is calculated to take one more liberty away and moves us one step closer to full-blown communism.


Is it any wonder why his grandmother was "executed" during his campaign for president? She was the only person in the U.S. who could give the damning evidence which would have kept him from being president of the United States. Yes, his grandmother conveniently "died" in a hospital during Obama's campaign.


Of course, the mainstream, state-run media would never expose this massive cover-up about Obama's lack of Constitutional eligibility to
be President.

Well, obviously, because, as every intelligent person knows, including those conspiracy theorists who crawl out from under their rocks from time to time, Farrah Fawcett had sex with Barrack Obama and produced Michael Jackson. Besides, I have actually seen the real bonafide birth certificate of Mr. Obama, and I can verify without any doubt that he was born on Mars to an alien from Saturn and a wandering astronaut from Samoa. There are at least two websites offering undeniable evidence. Yippee! Ring the bells. Flip over the rocks.

His grandmother said she was not there for the birth as he was born in Hawaii.
The case was dismissed.
That article has no clue on what constitutes a "natural born citizen".

Agreed. There are issues of real substance to criticise Obama over: the hijacking of economic policy by banking interests, the lack of real headway in healthcare change, and the escalation of conflict in Afghanistan. Not whether he was born in or out of the USA. Leave that to rightwing scum like Rush Limbaugh.
