Obamacare: Say goodbye to Grandma and the grandkids!

Universal health coverage works in every developed country in the world, bar one. Not perfectly, but well enough not to bankrupt normal people who fall ill.

You seem to think the American people don't deserve this. I find that shameful.

I do not think 20 million illegals "deserve" health care in the US at the expense of those who do live there legally. The "illegals" are not the "American people" you referred to in your feeble attempt to shame me. The ten million who are truly "uninsurable" could be much more efficiently "taken care of" without denying the rest of the citizens the freedom to choose their own health care, if any.

The American people deserve the freedom to choose. Let Congress expand Medicare to cover those who don't have the means to pay, but I wouldn't want to lose a private insurance option in the US anymore than I would in Argentina.

The only real "losers" will be the parasitic insurance companies who milk low income families and refuse to provide comprehensive cover.

Can't say I'll cry when any of them go bankrupt. Premium insurers may trim down, to be expected, but there will always be a premium option for those who want it.

Much like there is in every other developed nation in the world that provides universal health care.

Low income families do not have to pay for coverage for their children as it is (s-chip).

Why should the rich receive better care than the poor if health care is (a) universal (right)?

PS: Universal health care does not exist, especially in the developed nations that purportedly "provide" it...and there may not "always be a premium option for those who want it" (can afford to pay. That's an option in a free society with private medicine. The Clinton plan of the 90's would have made private medicine illegal. We don't yet know what the future will bring, but Obama is not really at the helm of this operation. He is just the talking head.

How does it not exist? Not sure I follow.

Might not exist as in "you have teams of doctors, nurses and specialists on standby just waiting for you to feel slightly under the weather"

But I'm not sure who's claiming that things could or should be like that.

The whole issue bemuses me to be honest. Just seems like scaremongering and point scoring.

There are many Canadians who go to the US for care they can't get in Canada or have to wait many months to receive. It isn't amusing.

Thanks, Guys, but all of my posts in this thread refer to the proposed legislation in the House of Representatives.

You're welcome. But I beleive I was referring to the same thing as well. Page 425 of the bill; a.k.a, "Advance care planning", "end of life counseling", "obama's death panel", etc. etc., is a Republican initiative pushed by Isackson of GA.

In any case, Susan Collins might as well go stand behind Senator Spector....

Collins and Snowe are my senators, and I think they are both great Republicans. ;)

You seem to miss the point that families do have health coverage but they can barely afford it. It's a necessary expense that is taking huge chunks out of the budget.

We are not just talking about UNinsured. We are talking about under insured, excluded conditions, limits, and payments that are getting completely out of control.

The system is a mess.

And you seriously think the government is going to make it all better?
