Parcels From Abroad And Customs Marlarky.....

Most of those "guests" are requests from web crawlers - I doubt they will join a Colonia trip ;)

Most of 118? That does seem excessive. May I ask the source of your knowledge on this one, please?

An expat should settle in Colonia & open such a business (PO box), with mules & such.

Just curious ... do you go through customs when returning from Colonia? Or, since it is also Mercosur, no customs?

Thanks, Bob

Mercosur is a bogus customs union but, for non-citizens, Argentine authorities will still probably overlook anything other than half a dozen new MacBooks and four large-screen HDTVs.

Web crawlers work in distributed clusters, often using a separate IP, each of which would be recognized as a unique guest. You will see that you have a huge number of guests 24/7, and often "watching" super old threads...

So what percentage of the guests do you think are actual people?

Probably around 10%-15% - for exact numbers you'd need to ask the admins which can see from where the requests come.

Sorry if I sneak in into this thread, but I was wondering if shipping (from abroad) through FedEx or other couriers could simplify the mail collecting process.
I wear a hearing aid which is custom made in Europe, so if anything goes wrong I have to ship it to EU, have it repaired and then mailed back to Argentina.
It is the size of a bean, of course it is expensive electronics (around $3500), but it is of value to me only.
You can guess it's the most precious thing in the world for me, and I cannot afford to have it sitting somewhere for months, having it lost or stolen.

Isadora, My recollection from other posts is that it doesn't matter that much anymore who ships it because it all ends up in the Aduana Warehouse. You might try a search on FedEx.

It doesn't all end up in Customs at Ezeiza (for FedEx and DHL - other items, like USPS 1st class goes to Correo Argentina in Retiro, for example, not nearly as bad). For sure, smaller envelopes with papers never get held up there and will make it to your front door.

I'm not saying a hearing aid will get passed through, but I get ATM cards and other small items like that all the time. The only time my packages get held up is when I get boxes that have a lot of stuff in it. I have a mail forwarding account in the States and get my mail via DHL every month with no problem as long as I don't send bulky items down. I got a CPU a couple of years ago with no problem like that (taken out of its box of course).

However, with your particular issue, I'm not so sure. If you have to declare it in the paperwork for insurance purposes, there is a good chance it may get held up. If whoever is returning it to you can declare it as an inexpensive item and place it in a letter-sized envelope I don't think you'll have problems. But as soon as you have to declare exactly what it is, it will probably get held up in Customs (at Ezeiza with "overnight" couriers, at Retiro with first class and registered mail). You may or may not have issues with taxes paid at that point, depending on whether or not you could show it was sent for repairs and is not something brand new.
