Permanent Residency

Service Canada can send the letter to you at your address, but if the requirement for the pensioner visa is now $2200 it won't make any difference.

it won't make any difference to DNM (RESODENCE route), But I would still need it for federal court (CITIZENSHIP route).
Did I understand you correctly?

I am very very sorry.
Suddenly I realize I should have started a new post of my own.
This is your own post.
I am new to forums. First time I used it extensively.
I sincerely appologize.

I meant to say:
1. Is it recommendable to apply for a STUDENT visa? To "regularize" my status while processing the CITIZENSHIP route for a year or so?

It is unnecessary to do so and probably unwise to "expose" yourself to migraciones this way.

Peony started this thread.
The questions in your posts are relevant to hers.
I'm glad you asked them here.
It saved me the time of replying to her questions as well as yours. :)

Haha, you are new to this forum -- things can get pretty hairy around here with people screaming at each other -- and not an apology in site. It's very nice to see one, although totally unnecessary!

Haha, no worries! Like said before you are basically in the same boat as me! :) Thank you for your input! It sounds like citizenship is the easiest route however I really only plan to be here 2-3 years more... so I am a little hesitant to bind myself to the country for the rest of my life as it is definitely my plan to settle back in the States once we are able to. I'll have to look into both and find out more information and see which is best for me! Being a full time student still allows you to have a job, but it can be exhausting! I might look into volunteering also and see if they can help apply for a visa.

It is extreemly hard to know what is the law here. Even from the same person in a span of 24 hours. They say the law is 90 days with a maximum of 180 days, yet immigration broke that law several times. My passports have more than 25 tourists visas of 90 days since 2004.

Wow it sounds like we both started coming here about the same time! My first time here was beginning of 2005! I agree that it makes things more confusing just not knowing what "law" is being followed that day. While maybe the law is written one way, it is interpreted in different ways just depending on the person you deal with. Even the same person can change their mind day to day! For most people this method works because they are still getting lucky and not having a problem staying on a tourist visa, but for the few people that get stuck in a rut it's scary because you have no idea what the outcome will be! I will keep you updated on how I decide to proceed, and I hope you do the same! I'm sorry to hear that they changed the minimum pension amount for getting a visa... I wonder what this means for people that currently are here on that visa and are no longer eligible. Does this mean they have to find another way to stay, or can they continue because they were accepted under the original prerequisites?

Since you don`t mind me sharing your post with you, I posted the following this morning in newcommers forum:

8.5 years passed by in BsAs, like it was just yesterday. Care free and just passing my retirement years enjoying every minute. One day I waked up & noticed that my Canadian Driver License is about to expire. Started to look for a renewal. WHAT A TRUN OF EVENTS !!!!!!

It turned out to be that I should not be looking for a DL renewal, but instead should be looking at a nightmare called RESIDENCY.
Today I heared that under the right circumstances, I could face a court order deportation in 10 days !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am reading this stuff Federal Courts / Supreme Court / Letigation / lawyers / deportation and I am wondering, asking myself what have I got to do with this stuff??? I am just want to spend my few retirement years in peace. I am not looking for work. I am not taking anyone`s job. Is it realiy worth it all of this ????????????????????????????

What I do not understand is Supreme Court and Federal Courts have time for my little residency?????????? I am just a little insignificant 67 years old retiree.

Are there some other countries that may accept someone like me with less hassle? Much much much less hassle???

May be it is time to start looking???????? Instead of spending the rest of my life in courts.

Hi:
I feel like there should be one big seperate forum dedicated solely for RESIDENCY.
Such an important topic. The stuff is scattered all over the place.
