Permanent Residency

Steve:

Just for my understanding, please confirm to me that this system could have worked if I followed it from day one and never broke it.

1. Leave Argentina for a month. (just only pay the fine. )
2. Return. Get a new 90 days tourist visa.
3. On the 89th day of the above visa. Get a 90 days extension.
4- Repeat the above 3 steps once a year (once each 1 year minus 1 day to be exact).

But I can not use it now cause I broke it once.

You might even be able to do it now, but I think it would be very risky.

Using this system (and variations on it) to beat the system has apparently worked in the past for many, but they could have had a problem at any time, not for repeat payment of the overstay fine as some have suggested, but repeated overstays that show (in the opinion of the immigration official) that they were not in Argentina as a tourist.

When I made the post that enforcement has not been strict in the past and might continue that way in the future I had not yet seen the order that Dr. Rubilar posted indicating his client was denied reentry on the basis of being a "pseudo" turista. "Pseudo" is the exact word that appeared on the order.

Anyone who has been living in Argentina on a tourist visa for 8.5 years (whether it was renewed once or twenty times) is simply not a tourist.

Steven:

So you`re saying that according to the SPIRIT of the law this system would have been still illegal.
Even if immigration officials were to implement (hypothetically) only the LETTER of the law and permit my re-entry every time.

I think I`ve got it now right. Am I correct this time?

¡¡¡¡Apostillas!!!
The info from Inmigraciones implies that the Argentine Consular offices do this. However, this does not seem to be the case. In fact, it is the Dept of Foreign Affairs & Trade in Australia and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in the UK. My question: What French government dept. is responsible?? I am in the parlous situation of having essential documents from all three countries and, typically, it is impossible to find the answer on a French government website (they are nearly as bad as the Argentine equivalents).
Has anyone obtained an apostilla in France? Can you tell me where you got it done? I´m getting desperate, any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Sarah

Check with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, or equivalent.

Bradly It is nice of you to give advice... but it seems more off the cuff advice as compared to really down to earth advice. You say why don't you try this .. when in actuality you have no real clue but want another posting onto your page of pages here on baexpats is how it all seems to me.. be honest to these people who are up to their ears in trying to figure out where to go next to find the answer to their problems.. you just give off the cuff advice which anyone can do too but which is most likely of little assistance here too. I have gone through many sessions with so many individuals here in BA for another problem with signatures and translations and legal and other none of which I will discuss with you but life here in BA can be quite complex so please do not be giving off the cuff advice to people as it just makes our lives even worse.. thank you.

Splaying: This forum, contrary to what you may think, may not always have all the answers, and it's certainly not at your beck and call to give you what you want, whenever you need it. I, as a member, endeavor to provide the best information I can when providing information to anyone.

How the advice may seem to you perhaps isn't really how it is. My advice wasn't a stab in the dark or "off the cuff," as you put it. When it comes to getting an apostille from a foreign government for a document at the national level, your best bet is to contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, or equivalent, of that government. Read up on the Apostille Convention (of which France is a signatory state) for more information. I hope using Google isn't too painstaking for you.

Perhaps someone will have better advice--and that's great. That's the nature of this forum. If all the answers were so straightforward and readily available, this forum wouldn't have much of a point, now would it?

The Ministère des Affaires Etrangêres web site is about on a par with the site of Argentine Inmigraciones!
I have written to various ´contact us´ addresses within the French government system and am promised an answer within 3 days. I´ll try the French Embassy site today.
If I get definite advice, I´ll be very pleased, and I´ll share it here.
D´ailleurs, it seems like there aren´t many French nationals on this website...is mainly USA and Canada, with a few UK and Ireland.
I feel a posting coming on...
Cheers, Sarah.
