I’m considering getting a small wi-fi router for places that have an internet connection that requires connecting via a cable. A web search can let me see what exists in the rest of the world, but I don’t know what is available in BsAs. I’m looking for something small and cheap, doesn’t need to have great range as it will only be used in a small apartment, and should allow for ways to limit use (that is, keep the freeloaders out). Mainly looking for an alternative to carrying around a 6 meter cable.
Anyone found a something decent in this category locally?

I’ll go to Galleria Jardin next week to see what I can find, just wonder if anyone has any recommendations/denunciations on this type of gadget.

thanks

I hate apple mostly but the Airport is a good product for wifi modem, you can use it anywhere you travel. The only issue is they charge way too much for them in the apple store, best bet is buy one used and have a friend from the states bring it to you.

There are 2 models that i have used.. both very compact and easy to travel with..

Linksys WRT54GC:

NetComm N300

I like the NetComm better as you can adjust the signal strength..

Both are around US$60, so not the cheapest, but not to expensive either..

I was using an apple airport a couple of years ago, and i did not like.. There was a problem with setting up with WAP security, would drop the connection - was fine with just wep. Also needed to download an application to access it/change settings/setup.. Not the usual setup web browser. But saying that if you have a MAC software for setting it up is already in the OS.. and maybe they have released newer versions that are better..

I have a really good asus one that I don't use anymore (http://www.asus.com/Product.aspx?P_ID=9H8EmdWucHDpYOb8) - I wasn't sure what to do with it - I'm leaving Perth in two weeks and coming to BA - I could always pop it in my suitcase for you - I have no idea what its worth but you can have it for 50 bucks or something if you want :) John.
