Hi,

I have been in BA for 2 weeks and staying until the end of January, I need to find a doctor that can assist with a pathology test following an operation I had in early November.

Does anyone know of, or have experience is arranging this in BA?

I am learning Spanish but would be a lot easier if the doctor spoke English.

Appreciate any help or suggestions.

Cheers,
John

There is a very large place called Centro de Diagnostico Dr Enrique Rossi at Arenales 2777 that seems to do almost every kind of test, but whether you could access them directly and use one of their doctors to get the pathology sample is only something you could know or try. When I had jaw surgery two years ago I used Dr Ignacio Luis Calb at Riobamba 921 7A for the pathology report (cost AR 1000 THEN), but I did have a local surgeon to write the pathology order.

Failing the name of an English-speaking doctor popping up here soon, you could try the Italian or German hospitals (just google them) and ask. There aren't many though. And expect to pay quite a lot. Or, if you are really game (or broke), just go to the public hospital (at Facultad de Medicina) with a dictionary, a really good book and something to drink, and ask for help. Expect to wait (hence the book).

Good luck.

Also there is Centro diagnostico on Marcello T. Alvear at Larrea. They do every test imaginable. And have private doctors available by appointment in all the specialties. Maybe you can let us know what kind of test you need and someone here on this forum could tell you what to ask for. I suspect you may need a written prescription form from a doctor for many tests, so you may need to consult with a doctor first. Again if you let us know what kind of specialist you are needing we could tell you what they are called in Spanish. I also have a guide that lists doctors in specialties and says whether they speak English. But personal references from forum members are the best.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, yes I realised that I was slightly ahead of myself and will need a doctor to refer me for a test etc

Does anyone know of any English speaking GP/Doctor's in or near the Palermo area, I am staying in Las Heras?

It's a straight forwards test for a standard operation, nothing too crazy.

Gracias.
