Send TV to Europe, suggestions?

That's funny that it ended up working just with pushing buttons. We tried everything including the converter. Are you sure you're not picking up NTSC channels? It is PAL/NTSC/Secam compatible.

Funny, that TV is Belgian too! I bought it when I was in Uni in Brussels! lol. Did I ever give you the remote?

No, I never got the remote, but that's OK. I use a DirecTV remote with it now.

When I was stlil in CF it worked fine with cablevision...after pressing the right button.

Have you tried digital cable?

Maybe I'm a bit confused, but I thought all this PAL/PAL-N/NTSC was irrelevant with a digital cable box. I brought a Samsung HD LCD TV from the US, plugged in via HDMI to my Cablevision digital cable box, and had a clear digital signal plus HD channels. No problems whatsoever.

Katti, if you don't find a solution we could take it back with us. But not sure when that will be, around Jan maybe. I wouldn't send it back on the plane unless you pack it really well. Sleuth brought his flat screen with him on the plane. Maybe you could ask him how he did it. Also, DirectTV is NTSC which your TV should be able to receive.

Our TV does not have NTSC, unfortunately.

You think so? I must find a way to check that...

I think what Dave suggests should work. You could try getting a digital cable box with HDMI, or a receiver with video inputs and upscaling to HDMI, to get your video feed to the TV. Or if you want to test the idea, get a local DVD player with HDMI out.

What brand/model is your TV?

It's a Sony Bravia KDL-40Z4500.
I have checked with Sony Belgium and they said it was not possible to get it to work here...

Well, send me your address anyway, and one day I'll mail it to you. If it makes great, if not then no worries since you don't really need it.

I think for a quick test you can plug in a local DVD player via the HDMI port and if get the image working, you should be ok with one of the other solutions (HDMI capable digital cable box, or an AVR with HDMI out).

The same idea might work also using the Component connectors, which are more common than HDMI on older equipment. Check your cable box to see if it has component out (the round Y/Pb/Pr connectors - [green/blue/red]). If it is a digital cable box, it should at lease have those Component connectors.

By the way, the specs for your TV do say it supports NTSC for the analog Video Input, so technically a DirecTV box should work. But I'd try the digital connectors first (HDMI or Component).
