I think everyone uses Skype.

I use it for calls, sending texts, and I have a skype number (US Number) forwarded to my cell phone down here. It's absolutley amazing!

In the user control panel, under 'edit your details' you have the option to add your skype name. If you do that, the skype icon wil be displayed on your messages and all the readers will know how to skype you.

I have a Perth skype in number I am bringing with me to BA next month - and a couple of skype dect handsfree phones to plug into my router ethernet port - and also a couple of normal phones I will plug into my pap2 voip adapter - for me the voip adaptor is a much better option for features/options/control over how the ''line'' operates - but yes, for outgoing international calls etc skype is still a good cheap reliable option as long as you have a decent high speed connection...
