The Best Cycle Routes?

[background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]That's one problem with crowd-sourced stuff[/background]

Of course you know what the advantage of crowd-sourced stuff is? Instead of simply making a comment on how "plain wrong" it is, you can actually correct it for others.

Thank you to both Sara and Lucha - both links help a lot!

Now this is curious.

Someone who says on their profile that they have been in Buenos Aires for two years, that they are a "Guide" with a web page link to their local tour company aimed at English speaking tourists

Yet seemingly hasnt bothered to look through the informative web pages of the Buenos Aires Government which is full of tourist information including a link to the cycle route map on the front page. - or at least he feigns no previous knowledge.

Yet there are yellow bike share points all over the centre of the city with maps of the official cycle routes all heavily publicised

and what sort of local guide hasnt heard of the BsAs Gob web site?

Bizarre?

Is there no sort of accreditation for Guides here unlike many other cities where people do spend a lot of time and trouble learning about the cities that they escort people around giving then useful and accurate information and getting official recognition for this as a professional. Here anyone can be a Guide? Like crowd-sourcing I guess anyone can set about giving duff information and get shirty about it when questioned!

Or tout for business. I shall chuckle if this tourist web site starts offering local escorted bicycle tours!

BTW Jonathan there is no such thing as bad publicity :D at least you have your information up front there on your profile.

Good luck I say - ring your bell if you see me out there ;)

I would stay on the routes with the concrete divider protected paths. Otherwise your just one driver's text message away from road kill.

HEY JOE!!! Bringing your rick-shaw over anytime?

The biggest problem Ive found is trying to second guess the lights at intersections when the cycle path is contra-flow

Gorriti, Palermo is a case in point

The Gov investment programme says that cycle lights are being introduced at crossings but this is a substantial investment and will take time.

In the meanwhile lots of excitement and cyclist-driver interaction!! :)

I was looking for some personal recommendations of routes that people here use and enjoy, and I now have a couple as well a link to the La Vida En Bici site which I had not previously seen. It may not be 100% accurate but it has certainly given me some ideas of places I can go.

My comment about correcting the crowd-source site was a little snarky and I apologise if it offended you.

Get out of the city !!!! Gringoboy is right. I bike the Paseo del Costa is great. Lot's of place to stop and see the river , have a light lunch , get drinks. Traffic is very light , heavier on the weekends. Nice bar geared towards cyclists at tren della costa station Barracas , with antique flea market on weekends.......

The best part is you do not need a government map or a cycle enthusiast map.

So all you need now is a good reliable bike .... and before you set out - dont forget to check the tyre pressures either! :D

BS Phil, This statement is RACIST!

You defend Italians but little yellow people don't appear to deserve your benevolence. I feel sorry for the Chino supermarket clerks in your barrio - how you must abuse them!

BTW I moved away from Vietnam last week.

 Joe as our resident Troll you have remarkably thin skin!

Rick-shaw drivers can be found in many different parts of the the world - in London most seem to be driven by muscular antipodeans

Havnt seen any here in Bs As however so just offering you the opportunity for the inside track into a new business venture to get you out in the sunlight and away from this unpleasant habit of lurking under bridges.

Not in Viet Nam anymore?

Seville is beautiful and about the only (slightly) warm place in Europe at the moment I imagine.

Of course Seville was developed into an important city by the Romans as Italica and the birthplace of Trajan and Hadrian both patrons of civil engineering and architectural magnificence including being prolific bridge builders of their time and well would you believe it also Italian! So do try to have some humility whilst you are there

BTW a word to the wise throwing out disparaging observations about "little yellow people" (your words) is going to get you in more trouble anywhere civilised - unless you are intent in slipping back into your troglodyte mien.

My advice? Try out the rick-shaw idea! :D

BS Phil, you're anti-Asian "rickshaw" comment has put your status of Commissar of Political Correctness on probation.

You're defense of Italian culture by incredulously denying that crime is systemic in Southern Italy whilst perpetuating anti-Asian stereotypes as Rickshaw Drivers indicates an Euro-centric racism that belies your neo-Colonial genetic makeup as a Pommy Bastard.

Anymore racists comments and you will be summarily court marshaled and drummed out of the BAexpat Thought Comisaria.

Joe do you actually read what you write?

Not pretty nor witty nor wise

Perhaps English is not your L1?
