Think it is a misrepresentation to suggest Jacobo supported the military coup in 1966 because he adamantly opposed President Illia. Quite the contrary I believe. Oppose the sitting president and it is automatically labeled a coup. Politics as usual in Argentina.

I had never heard of the Timermans before reading this post, but after reading the article about Jacobo Timerman on Wikipedia, I'd be happy to see more people with his kind of courage speaking out in the media. I wonder if there will be a movie about his life? Maybe too controversial to get financing.

There is a movie,... "Prisoner Without a Name, Cell Without a Number". 1983. Roy Scheider played Timerman.
It was a made for TV DocuDrama based on the book of the same name.

Seems like Jacobo Timerman had the ability to think outside the tribal mentality label of ''his people'' (Argentines, Jews?) and make his own decisions by focusing on what he thought was right and wrong. I'm just going by what I read and don't know what he did before 1976 but if that is true it makes his story even more interesting.

It is not tribal mentality,it is loyalty to yuur own people,and in the end,is the people (both israel and the argentinean jews) who helped fled,and where did he had to fled?israel!

That part of the story intrigues me. He arrives in Israeli heralded as the Jew who suffered at the hands of the brutal Argentine Military government, then when he starts writing that the State of Israel is a disappointment he becomes an outcast. That's the story that I imagined would be hard to get financing for a film.
