The Height Of Ignorance.

Curious as a basketball fan: which player said that?

Cant remember. It was several years ago, in a show that used to be on Sundays nights after the futbol, like 23:00, and the argentine journalist asked to say hi to Argentina and he said "Hi, Argentina, I love that city" or something similar.

since when are argentinians skin dark? Also they tend to be shocked by the thought of someone from the first world voluntarily living in a country like Arg.

I believe this. As I tell my friends, Argentina is one of the most racist countries I've been to. It's like when I used to drive through the South, except like Ed's point there's better food there.

It's also funny that so many Argies, mainly Ks, like to say that Americans or the us government is trying to meddle in Argentine affairs. I told friends I moved to Buenos Aires/Argentina. Where is that? That's in Brasil right? That's not too far away right?

Totally ignorant. But as well as there exist these people it also exist american ignorance, who think Argentina is a city from the US (really, I heard it from a NBA american player), and or know nothing of here, which is as you said cosmopolitan, or think that we live in cabins in the middle or the jungle or we are similar to mexicans. There are lots of stereotypes about south america, and a huge percentage of americans believe that story.

Absoultely. Many North Americans are totally lost when it comes to geography. When I was in Australia they though Argentina was in Spain and that the weather is the opposite of them. At least this woman in the bank could have kept her mouth shut rather than mouthing off about dark skinned people when surrounded by the very ones she was insulting.

That NBA guy may not be so wrong as you think, Matías: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argentine,_Michigan

I believe the difference is that in Argentina you will be shocked how assertive they are in their ignorance, In United States .we know that we don't know much about geography and for the most part most people will pause. and after excusing themselves ,will ask you where exactly you are talking about.
I know this first hand since most of my friends back in the States are rednecks and yet they never assumed i was mexican being that i speak the lingo and spent most of my childhood here.
