I am Argentine and moved back 15 years ago.
I am very vocal about my thoughts about the current government but I still always seemed to live a relatively peaceful life!
Tonight things changed.
I was invited by PROA to a VIP stand at the Chinese fire works in La Boca
The masses were unreal and getting there was worse than a hellish nnightmare .. or at least thats what I thought at the time
Upon living our friend had parked her car in a "garage" on Necochea street, a street which I hate !
upon trying to leave two thugs with knives went through our windows telling us to give them all
one had a knife at my throat and at the chest of the driver
I never carry anything but 100 pesos with me and no cell phone
as he pushed the knife deeper into my throat, I was trying to fight him off and close the window which i was able to do but not before he stabbed me in the hand and the driver in the arm
there were cars all around us and those f....g neighbors on the street watching
evreyone gave them all they had and we were alive
but is it enough to say as one does here... nos afarnaron pero no nos mataron
the robbed us but they didnt kill us!
thats is all i can say now!

Jesus, Esteban, this is really scary and horrendous! I was in La Boca just yesterday and I saw the floating fireworks platform. We had an unpleasant episode while getting to La Boca by bus from Retiro, but nothing like that. We got off immediately and hailed a cab and nothing happened, but that was the first time I ever felt danger in BsAs.

I am glad you and your friend made it out alive. It sounds like you were lucky just surviving this horrendous crime!

You can say you lost your robber experience virginity here, congratulations!!! :D
I got my ass kicked, badly like 18 years ago,in ciudad de la paz and echeverria to steal a watch,3 guys

Well,at leats, you didnt got hurt too much, materials can allways be substituted
Por lo menos no te lastimaron grave,lo material, siempre se puede sustituir,la vida,no.

That's horrible, Esteban. Glad you are okay, and okay enough to tell us about it. My heart is with you. I hope you can sleep tonight in spite of this horrible situation. Contact me if you need anything.

Sorry, Ariel81, but I feel bad for anyone that just settles for that..."at least I'm not dead". Although I'm not for a police state (like the US), I do feel that these types of social issues require some balance from society, even if in the form of some of the unfortunate situations from early last year. If the way to get things done is not through police but through social pressure in Argentina, maybe it's time to fire it up. It's never an issue until it happens to you. Well, it happened to me last week, too. You always think you know better, and you'll take every step to keep yourself out of harms way until that one time that you just feel comfortable.

Obviously, he doesn't care about the 100 pesos he "gave away". WTF!

I wish anyone the best who feels "at least I'm not dead" after an incident like what Esteban has been through and expects that some day, this all will pass and we'll return to safer times on the streets when things get better in Argentina. I'm curious how it gets better. Maybe a new president. Maybe a new mayor. Maybe more tampons (no, I'm not PMS-ing...). Want something better, make it happen. Or don't and expect nothing to change, because it won't.

si lo se pero sabes... no hay que conformarse con me afarnaron pero no me mataron!
something has to change!
Indeed, but if this people, dont change how they vote, and start demanding their rights, nothing will change
Im sick and tired of this country,as soon I find a job,and save some money, and finish my masters,im out of here, hopefully,by next year
