This Is Argentina

The precedent is Menem/Nestor Kirchner in 2003.
This from Wikipedia:

Menem obtained the most votes in the first round, but far short of a first-round victory (about 25%), so a runoff election against Kirchner was required, and was scheduled for May 18. After two terms in office from 1989 to 1999, Menem's popularity remained very low. With polls showing Kirchner headed for a landslide victory (polls showed him leading Menem by anywhere from a 35 to a 50% margin),[sup][4][/sup] Menem withdrew from the runoff on May 14, and Néstor Kirchner immediately became the president-elect.[sup][5][/sup]

He's not going to stand down so close though is he? Surely he is still very much in with a chance of being elected, I don't think there is enough time for that possibility to change enough to make him throw it all away.

What happens if he stands down, does Macri win automatically?

Scioli declared ..."Will never quit , didn't give up even when was I under water with a severed arm...!!
Well now the water is up to his nose , the rest the same.

If Scioli quits Macri wins instantly...!

CFK cadena nacional tonite another 700,000 votes lost for Scioli. B)

Yep, she'll be up to her usual tricks on the balcony tonight all in the name of self worship.
Fortunately we can at least see the end in sight.

The numbers for the 2003 runoff were something like 80-20!!

Please explain that 80 -20 figure Matias.
They never actually voted on that runoff.

the polls, the difference was soooooo big, soooo insurmountable, that Menem, with all the resources and power he had, could not fight with a governor unknown for the majority as Kirchner.

they were so reliable that former president Menem quitted the ballotage. He didnt even try it.
