I read that a new bill is going into effect that extends the maternity leave to 6 months and 25 days ( that sounds like charging $6.95 instead of $7.00) ...... for daddies !!!! I wonder what it had been? How many years off with pay and probably benefits do mommies get? Just another reason why prices are so high. A business will have to pay mommy and daddy and the people who have to take their place. Thirty days for mommy and 5 days for daddy;DNA test required is my way of thinking.

If I need a heart replacement I will ask for yours, since you don´t seem to use it.

Why would you need the DNA test? The mother and the "father" will need to take care of the baby anyway.
I think it is something like 6 months for mothers and 3 months for fathers in some provinces with the new law, or something like that.

ugh I dunno, but I would have certainly loved having my husband longer at home when our LO was born. Currently the father only gets 2 days!!! I mean WTF???

If you knew what it was like to raise a newborn, then you'd feel differently. 30 days for a woman is not enough time to recover from 9 months of being pregnant and the delivery.

But 6 months is a VERY long time for dad to get off from work...half a year not working WITH pay. That is insane.

When my kids were born, I planned my vacation around that. Everyone loves something for nothing, but there is always a price, and unintended consequences. My Argentine wife rails against the policy here in the U.S that often makes women return to work within weeks of delivery, but the other side of the coin is that if the government mandates something, someone will pay the price. If it is the employer that will be reflected in the price of their goods or services. If it is the government it will be reflected in higher taxes or inflation. Sadly, there is no magic. If fewer people are producing goods or services they will be more expensive.

Yes, it is called Civilization. You know, those places where you get sick and you go to the hospital OR the doctor comes to your house, and you don´t think about the cost; and the State helps you if you are out of a job or something, and helps with your education so you can become a productive member of society, etc etc. The important things of life, basically. One less 52 inch LED TV in my life? So be it.

I found the law: In Cordoba province now is 180 days for the mother and only 8 days for the father (before only 5!!), this is for State employees, not for everybody. I know that in the Moron district (kind of socialist) is also 6 months.

And your point is ? Life is not just about money, money and money .Its about human values and respect for the family unit . This is a good law and should be passed

Having time after the birth of a child is important, but my question is where do you draw the line. Do you think a father will spend six months assisting the mother to raise a responsible adult? To me that sounds excessive, and is simply a politicians way of buying votes by offering something for nothing. After a few weeks at home with the new baby I was ready to get back to work, not sit at home watching TV and drinking beer.

The source of the article was The Buenos Aires Herald 24/11. Almost 7 months vaction for the father is INSANE !!
