Transferring money into Argentina to buy a flat

@elgordito interesting, thanks for the update.

Since it sounds like you've been browsing properties, can you recommend a few websites you think have legit/not marked up listings?

I've mainly just used zonaprop, for each listing they have phone numbers of the estate agent or alternatively if you hate calling (like I do) it lets you send them an email and in my experience about 1/2 of the agents have replied (either via email or whatsapp). It also lets you sort by publishing date so for me most if not all of the properties that I 'enquired' about were available, and at the same price as the listed price.

Update for anyone whose still interested: I've decided to delay the purchase as I found a really nice apartment for rent, and with the WU USD-peso rate approaching 110 it's only going to cost around 500USD/month and at this price I simply can't be bothered to go through the process of buying. Thanks for all of your advice anyways, I'm sure it'll be helpful to someone else browsing the forum.

If I eventually do end up buying I'll open a new post to keep you guys updated.

Dear Mr. elgordito.....I am the person who recommended taking the rowboat with one oar. Of all the places in Latin America, spare Venezuela, this is the last country you want to park money. Period. You will hear about 'bargains'. Think of this...there will be a bottom....add a 20% move up to confirm things have stopped going down....buy something. That could be tens of thousands of dollars below where we are at now. And a long way off. Enjoy your new freedom, as I do.

Completely agree with the last few posts.

RENT! - This is one of the few places I am aware of where owning is actually a negative.

Costs to buy here are so high (for what you receive), procedure is a nightmare and if you want to unload it, it is another headache altogether.

Buying is like an invisible ball and chain around here.

Construction quality is very sub standard unless the structure is very old and those kinds of structures have issue ... lead pipes, paint etc ...

Besides, you can get quite a lot for each rent dollar.

Too buy if you are going to live there and lock up some fiat currency is not a bad investment and in the current turmoil of the world is wise . I certainly would buy if the offer is good . Most owners today will accept 30% of the asking price today and there are many desperate sellers who need cash .

God Save the Pesoooooooo--!!

Can someone recover the original investment wit a $250 peso Blue dollar by Year End ??

It's going to get ugly - VERY VERY UGLY.

The trigger point should come into focus with two possible / imminent events ...

#1) Sovereign debt default

#2) All things Covid 19

This will be a one two punch that will flatten Argentina sorry to say. But I didn't create this mess, someone else did.
