Uber Is Gaining Momentum

Thanks, Serafina. Now I only have to find someone to download the app on my smartphone. Which, sad to admit, it is far smarter than myself.

You have to access the Play Store (this is how the app store for Android is called) which is already installed on your phone by default.

Here it explains how: https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/190860?hl=en

Open the Play Store app
  • On your device, go to the Apps section.
  • Tap the Play Store app

  • The app will open and you can search and browse for content to download.

The you have to look for Uber (type "Uber" near the magnifying glass, in the search box).

Or you can simply clic on this link from your smartphone: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ubercab&hl=en
It will bring you to the page to download Uber and your smartphone already knows how to handle it.

I have to admit that I haven't used Uber yet but after my last experience in a taxi I may start using Uber. I have an account and the app for iPhone. I put in where I want to go. It gives me the route and how long until I get a car but no estimated price. Am I missing something? A hidden button? or....?

Look for a 'fare estimate' button down below after putting in origin and destination.

I heard Uber drivers will be going to jail for 10 days each.

Whats going on with the Taxi unions.

[background=rgb(247, 247, 247)]Buenos Aires City government raided the financial firm responsible for paying drivers. If charged and found guilty, Uber's 3,978 drivers could get up to ten days in prison, while executives would face sentences from two to six years......[/background]

Jail sentences for BA drivers? I wouldn't hold my breath.
[background=rgb(247, 247, 247)]....When consulted in an interview whether those charged could actually go to prison, prosecutor in the case Martín Lapadú said “absolutely” — “It will be up to the judge, but the law makes it legally possible,” he argued. Lapadú went on to say his office will dedicate the next months to bringing drivers to justice....[/background]

And for executives....where are they to be found in BA to serve prison terms?
[background=rgb(247, 247, 247)]........The prosecutor said that, after analyzing the company’s financial information, his office determined there’s enough evidence to accuse them of tax evasion. They could get up to six years in prison if found guilty.......[/background]
[background=rgb(247, 247, 247)].......Uber was declared illegal by the City’s judiciary on April 22 for continuously breaking the mentioned article 83 of the misdemeanor code.......[/background]

I'm still not sure if it is legal or illegal? I thought a judge said it was legal?

Can you ban all taxi drivers for having an extremely high % of rip off merchants? I'm sure all taxi drivers pay their taxes anyway....

As I said in a previous post,"it's your right to choose" If you want or need to use UBER ,I firmly believe that it should be your right to do so.
However,I prefer to pay cash as I usually make my taxi taking decisions from one minute to the next and they are short and repeated often.
UBER is not a favorite with taxi unions not only in BA but also in NYC and Bogota,Colombia.
In NYC union drivers in cabs I was in yelled unfriendly comments to 2 UBER drivers who asked for directions.
In Bogota it was worse than either place. An UBER driver's windsheild was smashd by a huge rock dropped on it from an overpass bridge and the driver had to abandon his car with blood streaming out of his nose.As horrible as that was,I believe it created more support for UBER than any other business campaign.
