Updated COVID restrictions on circulation

Harsher measures may be on the way.
Today more than 3000 cases in CABA and 10.000 in Provincia. Health system in AMBA is getting closer to being saturated.

In the Government the alarms were raised in the face of the harsh return made by the group of experts, who advised to further restrict social activities in groups and also outdoor and indoor sports. According to what they appreciated about social behavior during the weekend, the capacity in closed places is not respected and people continue to gather despite the presidential DNU that suspended these types of meetings.

Among the strongest measures they suggested is the possibility of applying tougher closure measures for a short time, with a beginning and an end. That is, restrict circulation as much as possible but with a limited time. It involves evaluating a new quarantine format in the face of the fierce escalation of cases in recent days.

I saw the biggest line up of cars in a while for covid testing at a nearby hospital... The week before there were hardly any - will keep an eye out because I drive past it every day.

I feel a much better solution to closing down everything is a strict "cuarentena" during the weekend over the next 3 weeks. Majority of social events take place on Friday evening thru Sunday.

Based on what is happening in Brazil and Chile - the average age of intensive care patients is getting significantly lower. In Brazil half of ICU COVID patients are under 40. In Chile the average age is around 50.

Perhaps as older people are increasingly likely to be vaccinated (or have been exposed and passed away in the first wave) while younger people engage in more risky behaviour allowing it to spread faster it shows the numbers game of COVID more clearly. The more infections there are, the more younger critical cases and fatalities there are in absolute terms that saturate the heath system and cause real harm to the community. New strains that spread faster like the Manaus one make it all the more dangerous.

Message = everyone needs to take more care at this time.

This isn't good for motochorros - it means they will have to rob people during daylight instead...

So the new measures imposed by President Alberto Fernandez:
  • Night curfew 20:00-06:00
  • Restaurants may operate only on a delivery basis after 20:00
  • Presencial classes at schools suspended
  • Shopping malls closed
  • All cultural, social and sporting activities in enclosed spaces banned
Measures will be in force for 2 weeks until 30APR effective from 00:00 Saturday.

Scandal has erupted around the president's decision to send the military to CABA to control the streets and enforce these measures. According to Alberto "we are going to control compliance using the federal forces, I don't care if the city police don't want to intervene"

Protests have been taking place by angry parents outside Olivos. As late as Monday this week the president was quoted as promising not to touch presencial classes and in direct conflict with his own Minister of Education and Minister of Health who demonstrated these are not currently a major route of contagion and promised earlier that day that classes would not be touched.

Laretta is now vowing to fight these two measures in court.

Medical professionals are up in arms after the president blamed doctors for the surge in cases over these past weeks. "The medical system also got too relaxed. When contagions began to decrease, the system prioritised attending to other types of surgical needs that could wait." he said in his televised address.

Some $15.000 will be given to the poorest people already receiving state support and low category monotributistas - employees and affected businesses will receive no economic help at this stage.
