Right, and the BBC and the NYT must be part of the right wing conspiracy too.
June 30 - Two teenagers shot in Seattle's Chop autonomous zone
July 7 - 1 Dead and 1 Injured After Gunfire in Seattle’s ‘Autonomous Zone’
July 23 - Another Fatal Shooting in Seattle’s ‘CHOP’ Protest Zone
Now, were most of the BLM protests peaceful? Yes, the vast majority was. Were their grievances about police brutality justified? No questions about it. Their grievances are 100% legit.
But, within the movement itself, there is non-trivial minority that is violent, racists and probably outright sociopathic. And the issue is that in politics, perception matters, a lot, specially in the age of social media.
Solely based on Trump's performance, Joe Biden should have won by a landslide, the Democrats should have gained control of the house and the senate and Mitch Mcconnell and Lindsey Graham should have had their asses handed out to them this election.
Why didn't that happen? Because elements on both sides are fanning the flames of the culture/identity wars, which drives fear and tribalism to be the primary factors guiding people's political choices . And as long as the reasonable elements on both sides of the isle fail to recognize and take action to end that, polarization will continue to get worse.
I think it's important to look at who the "protesters" are, not just their political banner. In Seattle and Portland the BLM protesters were majority white liberal college activist types and druggies who co-opted the original message into just a general anti-police, anti-Trump movement. In the summer, there was a "BLM" protest at a police station in the South Side of Chicago that consisted of mostly local college students, and interestingly, the Black residents came out to protest the protesters.
The tribalism is really two factions of white people going at each other as part of a phony culture war. Hippies vs cowboys like it was during the 60s. I recently saw an interview on the Roland Martin show where a Black academic/activist was asked if the Black community should be concerned with the Proud Boys and similar goups, and her was response was no, because they're only beating up other white people.
