My ten year old fridge is dying. The repair guy said that it cannot be saved. It is a Patrick, and the repair guy also said "worse fridge ever made in Agentina. . . "
While I morn the loss of a dear friend, I need to buy a new one.
Any recommendations? Any to stay away from?
I was told NOT to buy no-frost as they can be a bitch to repair.
I am looking on the least expensive end.

I have not got a recommendation but as you are looking for a budget model you will most likely come across the thermoelectric (Peltier type) models . I am not an expert, but if one of them strikes your fancy read up on them if they are right for you. .

I have to agree with the repair guy, ours is a Patrick and it's a piece of mierda!

I had a Patrick fridge, no-frost and after 2 years the no frost part didn't work and then it broke. I sold it for scrap. Now I have a Gafa which I bought 6 months ago (with frost). It works okay but makes strange noises. Appliances here are not what they should be to say the least.

Bosch is a load of tosh too. Mine broke after 2 years and had to be repaired at great expense. It made loud bangs for the first few years, has quietened lately (or I got used to it).

Another thing to add, if you buy one of those extended warranties, they will come to fix it eventually, but of course between Monday - Friday 10AM to 5PM. No repairmen on saturdays or sundays, early or late. Plus if they don't have the part available you just have to wait it out. This happened with my CANDY washing machine. I had to yell scream and post garbage about them on facebook and protest inside of Garbarino at the Abasto mall like a maniac to get them to fix it. Finally it was fixed after a 3 month long battle.

Not just in appliances, if you buy cheap or local, you will get what you paid for. We had to buy a new fridge last year and got a GE, so far so good.

Prior to moving south (and after asking at several repair shops for their recommendations) I bought two used Siemens (both single door Bariloche model) heladeras sin freezer on Mercado Libre...one small one for the space allowed in the kitchen and a larger one for an outbuilding I'm converting to a house.

They work as well today as when I bought them (three years ago) and they were far from new then. The are very quiet and I like the styling.

The Elegance model is even better (with freezer/not no frost and two doors) and here is one on Mercado Libre as of today for $2200 OBO:
