What Fridge To Buy? (Or To Avoid)

You can pay a little and get 3/4 years . or pay a little more and get 5/6 years. Or pay a lot and get 10 years.

Add up the cost , vs. the life , and amortize according to your current budget vs. your future budget.

Some research required , but the decision ultimately is yours.

Good luck !!

p.s. : I have a Whirlpool , 3 years old , no problems.

We have Ariston, the 4th year already. Good brand (Italian) .Our model has the fridge part on top of the freezer which is great.

Don't buy anything made in Argentina or Brazil. You get what you pay for.

Thanks for all the comments. I don´t want to go super cheap, but I´ve seen some for $15,000 and some for $2500. I can probably go up to $4500, definately need a freezer and a vegie crisper, and one that doesn´t make too much noise. I don´t need stainless steal or a huge fridge.
I´m reluctant to get a used one, unless someone could vouch for that particular fridge.
I will look into the suggestions offered--warnings are as appreciated as recs!

The seller of the Siemens heladera that I like so much has 765 "puntos" (feedback ala ebay) as a buyer and seller on mecado libre...98% positive. Only folks with less than ten points ever tried to cheat me on Mercado Libre...

You can see the fridge before you pay for it and it looks like they will help arrange delivery (which you would pay for).

The best way to check out the fridge is to go see it when it has been unplugged and is at room temperatue.

Have them plug it in and see if ithe feezer starts to cool/feels cold to the touch within a few minutes. You will also know if it makes any noise when it is first tuned on.

Go have a cup of coffee and return in an hour or so.

Be sure to take off the front base plate (plastic) to check fo rust which may form when water collects there after defrosting.

Also check the rubber door seal to make sue it's in good condition.

When the fridge is cold, the door should be somewhat difficult to reopen right after closing it.

If I still lived in CF and this fridge checked out I would buy it...after offering $1800 pesos, contingent on final inspection and testing.

Hey montauk we have a frost free gafa (bought 18 months ago) and its still going strong, not a problem and in fact I have been really impressed by it. 3500 it cost at that time.

Hi,

Reviving a old thread.

Any fridge which is recommended to buy or not buy?

I am thinking of buying a Electrolux 385 litres, which will fit the fridge space I have. My first choice was Samsung or LG but they are not fitting my space.
The Electrolux fridge is costing 15K about 2.5k less than Samsung/Lg of same size and about 5k more than Patrick or other unknown brands of same size.

Any suggestions?

Something to think about - because of current import restrictions, we were advised to think twice before buying appliances not made in Argentina, since parts could be very hard to come by when they need repairs.

A good fridge should outlive the current dynasty that has placed all these restrictions.

My Fridge, an Electrolux bought in Argentina in 1997, still works pretty fine. She s a little old, but ok.
