What is involved in getting a Driver’s License here?

A piece of Advise, this is old data. Check into it.
Become a member of the ACA for three months only. They could assist in getting the Arg DV, in some cases the tests could be taken at their facility at Libertador.

I am a permanent resident and I had to take the written and practical exams. I am writing because my license is expiring in September when I turn 66 this year and I am told that I will have to take the written and practical once again because of my age. Has anyone had this experience? Thanks

As far as I'm aware, only Spanish licenses can be directly exchanged for Argentinian ones. Everyone else has to go through the process of taking the classes and doing the theory and practical exams.

@Rich One's suggestion is good, the ACA give classes online, you can do the theory exam at their offices, and the practical exam at their test circuit near Aeroparque. The city's test circuit in General Roca is more difficult to get to.

After all that, when it comes to presenting all your documentation to get your license, if you bring your original license, apostilled, with everything copied, you may be able to skip the probationary period, which will allow you to drive on the motorways here.

I believe the requirements vary from one province to another. Since my 70th birthday I have been required to renew my driver's licence annually and take the practical (driving behind the steering wheel) exam, but have not (yet) had to take the written exam ( which I was prepared for the first time I renewed after turning 70.

PS: I downloaded the examin de coducir app in GooglePlay to prepare for the written exam. The app is updated every year. Though I studied enough to be able to pass the.exam using the app, I was very relieved not to have to actually take it in person.

Thanks, that is helpful. I am in Mendoza so it might be a little different here.

I did a writeup on how I got my license without any probation period, back in February. See: https://baexpats.org/threads/how-to-get-your-drivers-license-in-caba-step-by-step-guide.48502/

Re: @FrankPintor - CABA changed it so everyone has to do the test circuit on the street now, but all the comunas are able to give it. It's not a super bad exam.

I renewed my Argentine license last month in CABA. Before scheduling the in-person appointment, I had to watch a few videos online and answer some questions directly related to the videos. The day of my appointment the only tests were for psychology, vision and hearing. No road test or written exam.

I had forgotten the change to the street test, thanks. And yes, you and others have put a lot of first-hand information on the forum, surely searching can't be that difficult?
