When I move here what special things should I bring that are hard to get?

My Argentine wife misses baked beans more than me, she always brings a few cans over with us. I miss Yorkshire tea and a good curry much more. For unsmoked back bacon I think you’re snookered.
Elhombresinnombre's law: make it yourself or do without. If you are willing to go to a little trouble, unsmoked bacon is easy to make: at the bare minimum all you need is your chosen cut of pork, a ziplok bag, lots of salt and a refrigerator. Saltpetre helps too, but make sure you buy it from a food specialist or you might find the bomb squad tracking you. Cutting it into rashers requires a very sharp knife and a steady hand or a slicing machine. Smoked bacon is a little more tricky. Here's a diagram of pork cuts and how to ask for them:

We find almost everything we want at the Carrefour Hipermarket in Alcorta mall. Shoes, clothes can be custom made. We bring in some electronics each year. Some of you talk about CABA as if it's Port-au-Prince. Trust me, i's not. I was assigned there for several years.

If i want to taste America, i'm cooking it myself and making all the components from scratch.

I wanted an American Pizza. That meant making sauce and the dough from scratch.

Same thing with pulled pork. I need to figure out how the old hands back home make bbq sauces and get on that. As it stands a pound or two of dry rub lasts a while and can be used on everything.

Who did you offend to get stuck in a ****-hole like Haiti for "several years" ?

Vegemite.

Not that you'd want to eat it...unless you have a marsupial pouch on your belly... but its definitely hard to find.
Marmite and Bovril are like white whales for me. I have not found them here yet. I love them but I can live without them. I prefer the dulce spreads anyway.

You can get better prices for Twinings in Barrio Chino. New Garden sells some decent teas, including Rooibos, but you need to make a pot. Tabasco is officially imported into Argentina but not seen it much recently - I buy Thai chilli sauces from Barrio Chino - and the fermented premium soy sauce is amazing. I can bring marmite when I go home once a year, but the one thing I crave is back bacon. Anyone have any leads? Anywhere make a proper breakfast? - I do not ever want to eat facturas for breakfast. Eggs, sausages and mushrooms are good and I can live without the baked beans, but bacon is necessary - why don't other countries understand?
I wish we had New Garden in the interior. Having grown up with Rooibos the novelty has really worn off now. I always used to have it when I was sick so ... bad memories.

Cool. Good for you.

Haiti was the base for my work in the Caribbean. Beirut, Cairo, Phnom Penh etc before. Now, only Palermo Chico and Florence. Two of the last non-shiteholes of the world.

Great if your in CABA, anywhere else in the country and you're sol. Probably 95% of business is Arg don't have any online presence. Makes the first step of finding what you want to buy very difficult. So unless you have the time to get on a bus and ground pound there's no way you can even connect with vendors.
Certainly not a problem in eg. Mendoza.

A selection of what people ask me to bring:
Twist ties
Underwear
Mascara and other makeup, perfume.
Electronics, like cellphones, computers, etc
Birdseed (No , I'm not kidding)
Jeans
Vitamins
Pumpkin spice
Hot sauce, salad dressing
Bagel slicer
Curtains
I actually buy my underwear here, I suppose it is all about taste. I cannot get birdseed anywhere, you go in pet food shops and its cats and dogs only. I don't suppose you can even get hamster food.
