Got AR$10 last Thursday & Friday.

A friend got AR$10.25 today.

Check out what happened last January. Beginning of the month was 6. A week or two later, 6.5. By the end of the month it was 7. Sure it slowed down but it never really turned around from there. Then slowly rose 8, 9, finally hit 10 over the winter holidays but I think the gov't stepped in at that point to curb hysteria. Then it sunk to below 8!! Gasp, the horror!!! until slowly riding up to 8/9 where it stayed consistent until now. The way the official rate is going up, I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't drop below 10 again. Look at the trend over the last 1-2 years and it's pretty easy to place your bets!

It is now listed at 10.42 so perhaps the question of what it will hit next should be updated. We all see the increase in the rates for the subte and the buses. Many things changed as of the first of the year. Inflation is difficult. Fewer tourists are coming to BA these days too. Perhaps only seen by the peoples who are working with this type of clientelle. If you are receiving your income in dollars you are very lucky indeed but if you are a local earning income in the normal fashion then the situation grows more bleak every day. It does not pay to save. We see it with the locals using up their pesos immediately shopping and shopping. It is a shame as without a nest egg how can one retire? If you are on a dollar regime.. make sure you tip better at restauriants and to your staff too. Put some smiles onto the faces of the people. And with that thought -- Happy New Year to all of you too.

Ha ha, I used to hate the people who cheered for the peso to hit 9,10,11,13,50.... Now, not so much.

Tenes muchas razones Lucha (good analysis). It has to pull back to some rock bottoms, before it finally hits its target, "it never really turned around". The proper question now is:
How long is it goina take to get there: ... 3 ... 6 ... 9 ... 12 months ?

It really is a shame. Argentina could've/should've been another USA or another Canada.
When time is right, .... Update/Upgrade ...
1. What it'll hit next target?
2. How long is it to take to get there?

The government knows this is just a minor seasonal glitch. The model endures.

It is a shame
It really is. ... Argentina could've/should've been another USA or another Canada.

The problem is: people are conformistas, rather than doing bigger & better things ...they would rather settle for too little:
-steal a car stereo or spar tire
-snatch a cellular
-get paid few pesos for a protest or gov. assistance
-if someone had 100 pesos in his pocket, he'll not show up for work next day
-etc etc ....
I'm not sure if a gutsy leader/politician can succeed ... if he'd try to change their bad habits.
Habits are very very hard to change. .... It's a show stopper.

The Herald B.A. quotes a 10.55 for the dollar to buy and a 5 cents gap to sell?? at 10.50 totally unrealistic spread ...!??? if you get 10.20 be happy. So what is the best rate today?
