Wierd Buenos Aires

Great ideas! Will check some of these out myself. Don't have much to add... Although I have a fascination with the way many parts of the city have a cluster of a particular industry, like Once for textiles (or mannequins, I love the block that sells only mannequins!), or flowers in Almagro, on Corrientes and Acuña de Figueroa.

What is actually quite weird and fascinating is the Mercado Central, early, early in the morning. I go once a month or so and it is kind of crazy sometimes! But really fun. I also like the flower market in Barracas, but that is pretty calm.

I am not sure how much "weird" there is in BsAs, compared to NYC, or London, or Berlin or LA- argentines are actually pretty conservative about a lot of things, including dress, food, and embarassing themselves in public.

But my most authentic, and interesting, argentine experiences are always at places where there are few or no tourists.

I go to a fair amount of art openings, artists are good for weird, and there is often installations or performance.
I check Ramona for whats up on any given day. Their Bola de nieve section often has led me to interesting places and people you would never find on your own.

I also go out to see music a lot- the less famous, the better, usually. I have found myself at house parties, closed door clubs in residential neighborhoods, and crazy parties at tiny cultural centers. There are a half dozen choices every night, usually cheap, fun, and almost always with reasonably priced wine or beer or snacks. Portenos like to have fun. I skip the big shows of touring Euro or US artists, and high ticket prices.
I study Vuenos Aires, among other spots-

I look at it today, and I would not be agoin to see Rob Zombie- kinda think he's past his prime, anyway-
but I would consider going to see Apzoo at Emergente tonight (but I am, unfortunately, several thousand miles away)

there is a lot of interesting stuff going on every night. you just gotta look for it.
