Really, explain to me - what do people find so disturbing about this? I assume many of you eat meat, have sat on leather chairs or couches or use leather products? What is the difference? Zebras are cute and cows aren't? Assuming the zebras were culled responsibly, it's not any more inhumane than hunting deer.

Don't be confused.... humans are not rational beings... I for one have no problems killing and eating cow, horse (as i did in china), chicken, pig...

But zebra.... they just cute. Can't kill cute... cats, dogs... lions, possums, Koala, Kangaroos.

As a vegetarian and evolved human being, I consider any hunting (whether for sport or profit) to be barbaric and inhumane. BUT to try to justify it as "ethically done" is especially creepy. I would love to know what could possibly be ethical about slaughtering an animal for no other reason than selling its skin for thousands of dollars.

And starlucia - I get it. And in fact, those who don't eat any meat or use any leather products, etc - I totally respect that stance. But using one type of leather product and eating meat and then saying another is wrong just seems hypocritical to me.

FWIW - I do believe that indiscrimate sport hunting is reprehensible. )However in a situation like the one mentioned above, culling 1% of the population a year is hardly a bloodbath. And in many cases, if you don't hunt, because we've changed the environment, killed of natural predators, changed habitats - if you don't kill - animals wind up dying of starvation. There are ways to ethically and responsibly hunt and a good hunter follows them.

A lot of hunters are just as passionate about animals and the environment as vehement non-hunters (weird but true).
