Thanks for that Nick, great info! Being single-sex or religious doesn't really bother us. Our primary concern would be that she'd be comfortable there and that the school is reasonably good. And actually having classmates who are local is a big win too.

skyscanner.net will give you a very good indication of what's possible price- and route-wise. When flying to europe (not what you're asking I know, but likely similar) I find Tues and Weds to be the cheapest days to travel, and generally booking +3 months in advance offers much cheaper rates...

Here's a thing: can they actually *stop* you from leaving if you don't have a "insert local requirement here"? I tend to get a tiny bit miffed when they ask for my DNI on the way out. Granted I've never said no, but I've been sorely tempted more than once :S
