    Fantastic Peruvian Dinner

I was enthusiastic about Pericles' recommendation and the others mentioned and while checking around found that the really famous Astrid and Gaston has opened a branch here on Lafinur 3222. Haven't tried it but the one in Lima is super. One that I've tried called Status is nice and also...

I wonder if they will sell an IPhone on the 29th? (just joking)

Want to get more out of your time in Buenos Aires?

Sarahexpanish: What great news for us as we're just putting finishing touches on our new home just a block and a half from UADE (on Estados Unidos). Too late for the June program but certainly later. By the way we are taking an Introduction to Borges at La Rojas which is fun. But the UADE is...

    tourist visa renewal

I've overstayed my 90 tourist visa by 10 days and I believe I need to leave the country to get it renewed. I've heard that I will be fined when leaving. Does anyone know the rules; how much is the fine--is it per day or month? Can I just cross to Uruguay on the ferry and return the same day...

    Stop Paying Killer ATM Fees

Thanks Lee for finding out. Citibanks fees are outrageous but you can draw out $3,000 at a clip--a day I think. So if you need that much money it's a possibility. However, I also use the PNC Bank (formerly Riggs) and they don't seem to charge anything. Hope this helps.

    Re: Care Packages?

I was sent a package by DHL with a box of cookies in it. Customs wanted to change lots of money PLUS needed to find a Despacante to get it out of customs. Forget that, let them eat my cookies.

    Buying a dog//kennels

Hi everyone, I'm going to move into a house in a not so upscale neighborhood in a couple of months and I want to get a couple of dogs -- both because I like them and because they offer the best security. Dog buying here is a bit of a hit and miss operation. Anyone know of a good reliable breeder...

Bolichas (holes in the wall) Parrilla

I enjoy a good piece of meat in a good restaurant, but in Buenos Aires I particularly like those "que se yo" sort of holes in the wall located on side street in the less touristy areas. So I'll mention two here that I particularly enjoy. One's located on Charcas between the Arroz St and...

    thinking of moving to argentina

This is a warning to all of you (us) about moving to Argentina, BA or elsewhere for the long term. I'm living here now and have lived here on several other occasions. I've been visiting Argentina since 1973 and have worked here and elsewhere in Latin America and the world. The warning is very...

    Amazon

My experience with importing to Argentina from Amazon has also been terrific. But I've found that many times the books are shipped from Germany and so may take a bit longer than a week.

    Rental Experiences Poll

Hi everyone: My wife and I are fixing up an apartment to rent here in BA and want to ask you about your experiences, how did you find your apartment rental, did you pay commissions, what is it really costing you, what problems you've had when things go bang in the night, location preferences...

    Re: driver's license

interesting discussion but to add three points: I applied and received an international driver's license by mail for $11 good for 1 year, not renewable. As many have pointed out, the IDL is not really necessary. I've lived here for two years now, coming in and out to renew my visa and drive...

    need shipping advice!!!

I've moved in and out of Argentine several time--and it is indeed a pain even in at the best of times. Being an Argentine resident is pretty important. I suggest contacting Lift Van international who have always been my movers. Talk to Monica--they publish in the Herald pretty regularly...

    Looking for/Any new retirees

Well I'm not from Canada, but US, but I too married an Argentine and retired to BA. However, while I love it here today, I've been back and forth for 30 years and have seen the ups and downs. I'm not so sure that we won't see more of the same in the future. Having said that, I must also admit...

    Buying and Selling

Lots of us are buying an apartment, and the costs are not too bad. However do any of you have experience selling one? I'm considering buying one now and my Escribano (sort of notary public) says that the costs of selling are rather high. Might be worth hearing of your experiences or those of...

    Immigration Lawyer Recommendation

Thanks Napua: there's at least one out there -- me. Can you tell me any more about what it costs, how long does it take, does it require special documents. Since I've lived here for a couple of years already, it would not be easy for me to get documentation about where I've lived before. This...
