$1000.00 For Pumpkin Pie Filling...

REAL PUMPKINS:

Go to "La Achicoria Caprichosa" on Juramento 2525 (local 60 & 61 inside the Mercado de Belgrano--Juramento & Ciudad de La Paz about a block off Cabildo).
I ordered Halloween pumpkins for my boys from them and they brought me beauties! As of last Saturday 16/11 they still had 4 or 5 big ones left.

Thanks for the tip. That's only a few blocks from me, so I'll check it out.

A few weeks ago I saw pumpkins with a Halloween label. My guess is that somebody is growing them just for Halloween - smart business mind. I usually make pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving, I use squash and mix my own spices. I like to microwave the squash to avoid an excess of humidity.

if u r going to use the orange pumpkin, don't use the large ones. they r not too good for pie, imo. the small orange ones r much sweeter and less watery. in fact the butternut squash is a perfect replacement. if too watery just drain for a while, as others have posted. you can also use coconut milk as a dairy replacement. maybe some maple syrup as a sweetener, if u can find it. sort of off the pumpkin thread, i am in need of some gelatin for a pumpkin cheesecake. any suggestions?

Oh, and btw, don't forget to save the seeds and roast those too. That's all part of the fun!

I have two extra large cans of Pumpkin pie filling brought from the US, and a small thing of Pumpkin pie spice, maybe I should auction them off ;)
