American Tourist Stabbed In La Boca.

Lest we forget:

Tourist killed in Plaza San Martin

Argentinian authorities: 2 French tourists 'viciously' ki...

PS: It took less than a minute to find these topics using key words ("tourist killed martin" and "French tourists killed") in the search feature of this site.
Ahh yes, the classics. The stabbing in La Boca will be added to these 2 classics (1 I believe 8 years ago and the other may 5 years ago and somewhere in the mountains... just going from memory). 3 terrorist attacks in 8 years, not a bad record for a country. Makes me feel safe especially if I don't do stupid things. Bad things do happen to good people but I would say that Buenos Aires is a relatively safe major city of the world.

Poor guy, I just read he was stabbed 10 times with a one hour wait it is amazing he did not bleed out. Being 54 he will not recover as quickly as younger men either.

Agree.....according to news media the tourist was taking photos at 8.00am. I was surprised to read that there was police presence at that time of the morning. Most shops in that area don't open until 10.00-11:00am.

The victim is my cousin, Joe Wolek. Joe is a professional location scout, artist and photographer (http://www.joewolek.com) not your average naive tourist. Sadly violent attacks happen even to seasoned travelers who are alert and aware of their surroundings. He was fortunate to have been treated by an excellent heart surgeon, Dr. Ponce, who happened to be on duty. His wife Elena, sister and another cousin have all flown in from the US and are at his side now. The doctor conveyed that less than 1% of patients survive this type of brutal assault, where is chest, lungs and heart were stabbed 10 times. I'm sharing his gofundme site if you're so inclined to help. He is recovering slowly but is progressing and is beginning to walk and move around as part of his recovery.

Glad to hear he is recovering and was fortunate in getting the needed medical care. All good news! Proceeding such an event.

Not that it really matters, but the thief who stabbed Joe died in the hospital. Hoping Joe can travel safely home with his family soon.

That is the best news besides the recovery of Joe I have heard all day. I wonder if the hospital decided the creep did not deserve much attention.
