I have decided to extend my visit in Buenos Aires for awhile longer than expected. I want to have a friend send by FedEx prescriptions (legal) to me since I am running out. Any problems that you may know of?

If that medicine is available in Argentina, you may get an argentinian doctors' prescription to buy it here.

Do not do this. Fed Ex will screw you. Get the scripts locally.

I really should let you pay a doctor just for implying that they would charge you a higher price because you are a foreigner (99% wouldn't), but unless your prescription is for psychotropics you can probably get refills just by going to any pharmacy.

If you speak castellano (even poorly) you may actually get a discount (you may have to ask for it) at some of the smaller pharmacies when you pay cash (efectivo), even if you act like a typical gringo (like you did here).

I agree with steveinbsas. As a matter of fact, there is a pharmacy in Barrio Norte, next to Recoleta, that makes 27% discount on all medicines in cash and 25% paying with a debit card. It is called Farmacia Leloir, at the corner of Berutti and Larrea.

I also have a question about shipping. I am trying to receive my laptop from the USA I realize that I will need to insure it. Is there any way I can accomplish this with out paying insain amounts?

I really don't feel like disputing with the experts like "steveinbsas" but I have gone to 3 pharmacies and asked for a simple ointment for skin and was always told that I needed a prescription. So Mr. Expert, I would assume that they would require a script for something important, like let’s say heart or cholesterol. But why harp on the subject?

And BTW, every time a friend says something negative about this site I have always defended it. Let me think about that the next time………

steves' advice is ok.
Is your medicine is sold in Argentina and it's not a psychotropic in a wide range of little pharmacies (i.e NOT farmacity)

In these place you should only give the prescription for some especial drugs that requires "archived double prescription or to get the 40% off by you (eventual) medical insurance

Do not, I repeat do not ship your laptop. You might as well save yourself some money and go buy a new one now, since in all likelihood that's what you'll be doing when your laptop mysteriously disappears or just somehow doesn't show up.

Maybe you'll be lucky, maybe there's someone who's had a good experience sending a laptop, but I've never heard of it happening.
