Another Great Reason To Do Business In Argentina.

The Brazil of today is a huge monument to Lula's (and the Latin America Left in general) hubris. Their mismanagement of Brazil will have profound impact in Argentina's economy.

What is the trade relationship between Brasil and Argentina? Informally, my wife who works on Av. Florida says that Brasilians have pretty much stopped coming to Argentina as the Real slides.

Brazil is Argentina's single largest trade partner and the ONLY relevant buyer of Argentine manufactured goods (mostly automobiles). A crisis in Brazil will be devastating for both its industrial and agricultural sectors. Brazil is the largest importer and consumer of Argentine apples, for example, and exports are down almost 80% this year.

If you remember that meeting with the Argentine economist you helped organize a few years ago, I brought this up back then, which was quickly brushed off.

There's going to be allot of Miami real estate on the market very soon.

Well it seems Argentina needs to do some back pedaling drop the BS with the rest of world and open trade up ASAP or face the full the brunt of the music playing in this thread currently. Which from what I am hearing in this thread could be as bad as circa 2000 or at the very least worse than anyone wants to have to live through.

The BRICS and Brazil has just joined China controlled AIIB..Brazil had to go along with the Chinese, they are the biggest trading nation to Brazil so the Presidenta had to seek more loans from the Chinos. Pretty clever, the Chinos. Putting in more than 50% of its newly created bank's funding ratio but have more than 75% of project contracts going to them.!

Brazil is the only country in Latin America that has so far submitted a request to join the bank. The massive Latin American country will be the only founding member in the Western hemisphere. Israel has also submitted its desire to join as a founding member. The “Special Relationship” between the U.S and Israel has not stopped the country from joining the bank. So far the only one of America’s close allies who has not requested to join and would be in a position to do so is Canada. Canadians have not ruled it out, but so far they have not submitted a request. (They are watching the US action closely) March 31st was the cut off date for countries to submit membership to be considered for a founding member role.

I went to Brazil few days ago. I am a frequent traveler there. For the first time, I was harassed by the customs there in so many years. They had the audacity to question me on my used apple laptop ( its 2 years old and looks used)..they kept asking me when did I buy it and if i plan to give it to anyone in Brazil. They did not have a smile on their face and looked pretty grim!

Just got the feeling that they are getting desperate!!

I just had a trolley handbag and did not look like a tourist at all.

I don't want to raise a shit storm here but one could hardy consider Israel to be a US ally. They hang around for
benefits but have failed to join in most allied endeavors. No...I am not anti Semite or anti Israel.
I am anti BS terminology.

I am not nearly as bearish on Brasil as many others in this thread appear to be. Yes, at the moment Brasil appears to be a mess and they squandered much of the momentum they had back in the first decade of this century, but I believe the gravity of the current scandals will change the political climate in Brasil permanently and give the necessary push to enact the reforms needed for Brasil to get to the next level. The world is currently experiencing a commodity price down cycle but as with all cycles it will come around and Brasil's massive exportable resources will again bring a windfall. The BC do Brasil still has over $350 billion USD of reserves and the new Finance Minister Levy is a serious guy who I predict will be able to righten the ship. A huge difference between Brasil and Argentina is that Brasil has actual functioning and independent institutions whereas Argentina is a sad morass of caudillos and pathetic incompetents.

In addition, although the world consensus is against emerging markets, I predict that later this year the Federal Reserve, instead of raising interests rates as anticipated will actually initiate QE4 as the US economic "recovery" is a farce and the Fed has no exit strategy. This will bring a rebound in FDI to emerging markets such as Brasil and reverse the rise of the USD internationally.
