No doubt there is some less than trustworthy stuff going on in the unions, but the government has an obligation to protect it's citizens against that kind of moral hazard. Incredibly they don't seem to agree and seem to think it's ok to blame everyone else.

As has been pointed out several times, safety systems exist and should have been implemented to save lives. Possibly a better spend that paying for hooligans to enjoy their football matches on tv of a sunday evening.

Edit: I think it may be just a big understanding. He probably told you the per capita income in chilean pesos and you compared it to the per capita income of the US in USD.
