Any Argentinians on this site that relocated to Buenos Aires after living abroad?

Im an Argie living in the US for 10 years and living out of Argentina for 20 years. I will be moving back in Feb. All the times i visited on vacation to mendoza and baires had been in the winter so being in argentina in the summer should be an experience! However i breathe argentine culture and am very excited as well as anxious to move back and start my new life. I would love to meet up with anyone and share!

One thing is for sure: I came back here because there's a lot to be done and, I thought, if I want to make a contribution, it is easier here than in the US. It still surprises me how many people don't have a built-in "can-do" attitude (however, some do and are quite resilient), but then again I am comparing them with the workaholics of Silicon Valley,

Wow, I relate to the feeling of wanting to contribute....often I catch myself thinking about what I could do to make a difference here, I go into fantasy land & have to pull myself out of it...it's automatic. Apart from Australia, I've lived in various other countries like Japan, USA, Thailand, Malaysia, Germany, Spain, but nothing can bring out the protective instinct in me like when it involves the country I was born in. If I hear about something being done to my land I react with the most intense feelings, mining companies polluting & plundering, the environment, deforestation, pollution, over fishing of our oceans, over population, our politicians selling us out, corruption etc. It stirs very deep emotions, and I know it's not rational but it's there...you want to make the place a bit better...only to be knocked back by cold, hard realities.

Work ethics & can do attitude....you said it! That's another one that stirs deep stuff within... why do they want to make it harder for themselves?
It's less costly & most beneficial to do it the right way first time round!! :) There's this judgemental side that comes out in me & it's just there...can't exorcise it away. But I'm also proud & grateful for the discipline & wisdom that my other country has enriched me with.... just wish I could spread a bit of it around here sometimes.

I catch myself wishing I was a real Argentinian, and at other times also wishing I was a real Australian....Just sharing some random thoughts.

Yes,...we must get together..:) "seven out of six Argies don't live up to their promises to 'catch up'..." is a sticker I saw in the subte the other day... I'd like to defy it. Let's catch up! How about Saturday? something easy, maybe a picnic,...maybe a coffee...mate.. what do you think?

Saludos,
R.

Well, I'm not Argentine, but I at least "bicultural" & definitely know where you are coming from. I would also love to meet up and talk about our experiences. If you get something planned do let me know.
Hi mini, I relate to you too, especially when I lived in the other countries outside Oz & Argentina. Yes, we should all meet up... how's Saturday or Sunday? maybe we could have a little vote on it.

Saludos

I like this thread. I find the more you are exposed to the more points of view you are able to entertain, and the better perspective you are able to have on just about any situation bc you can view it from so many differing angles.

I was born here but culturally I am entirely foreign, though I think there is a certain appreciation or ability to relate that's just in the blood. In my case I relate to several different cultures and identify with none of them fully - and while I have sometimes wanted to feel entirely part of one, especially when I was younger, now I think it's probably a key strength of mine.

Either, in the afternoon, works for me (as of today! ;)) . Otherwise we could meet in the evening during the week.

Too tired now to write about myself...(anyway, if you look up in the intro forums, you'll find my posts)

12 years abroad -came back one year ago... Please count me in if there is a re-pat meeting one day!

My biggest struggle is knowing I am where I HAVE TO be (I wouldn't want to be anywhere else in spite of what makes us cringe here), but feeling sorry for my children growing up here...

Please tell me I am not the only one shocked by how "ordinario" is everyone nowadays....After 1 year, I still can't get over people (young, old, rich, poor) saying boludo, pelotudo, forro at all times, anywhere...(even old ladies on their cell phones on the bus!)

Hi Native, YES! I agree! Very ordinario...but I chuckle sometimes when I hear our local beauties call each other "Che Boluda!".... it's just really funny to me, considering the origins of the term.

Imagine hearing the same colourful language spoken by Argie celebrities & public figures on our TV channels, being translated & used in the same manner by their counterparts in the US, England , Australia etc! There'd be a public hanging. Impossible to fathom. I remember a few years ago when I first spent time here how shocked I was when Boca thrashed River Plate on the field, the front page headlines read "SIN VACELINA" .... I hope it doesn't offend anyone here...forgive me if it does...just illustrating.

Where I get a little lost is with my tendencies to speak in the older formal manner, 'usted'... I sometimes feel like I've just stepped off a time machine.

Hi Mini, sounds great...I may be able to pop out tomorrow early evening (Thurs 7th)...I'll PM you to confirm, AND anyone else who's free tomorrow evening you are all welcome to join! How about somewhere in Palermo or if anyone's got a good place to suggest. Something like a coffee shop etc.
I'm open.

Saludos.

Hi Matie, wow...sounds like you're really looking forward to returning, great.
That's how I felt when I kept coming back, there are so many reasons I do not want to leave here after being back for the last 13months, they are my own...but yes there are adjustments that I had to make, things that I really missed going without... my Vegemite...German Bread...Thai food,...the ability to just click on the "Buy Now" button on eBay & just sitting back to wait a whole 2 to 4 days for a new Laptop delivery from the US or Asia to arrive...I miss some things but they are not enough to make me want to leave. There were some real challenges but Life is very satisfying for me on many levels here. So..I wish you the best on this coming adventure, you will NOT get bored here in BA, no way.

Maybe we'll catch up when you're here.

Take good care & make sure you bring with you as much Electronics as you can carry, you won't regret it.

Best of luck to you hermano.
