Hey all,

Has anyone heard anything new about the banks starting to stock some ATMs with USD? I remember reading in la nacion that a couple banks we prepping to do that for the cepo change, but can't find anything more recent.

Would just be convenient to have more options available.

Thanks

My Galicia branch on Santa Fe y Scalabrini has one ATM that dispenses $usd or so it says..!

Dollar ATMs already exist and have for years and only two types exist:

- ATMs that let people withdraw dollars from their dollar at account at said bank
- Banelco/Link ATMs that let people withdraw dollars from any Argentine dollar account

What isn't and won't be coming is ATMs like you find in many other countries, such as Peru or Chile where you can select which currency
you want, regardless of where your card is issued - the government and BCRA doesn't want to make it easier for Argentines/residents with dollar accounts abroad to access them, they want these funds to be repatriated to capitalize markets/banks/reserves.

Early this year I went to Uruguay for the weekend just for a little R & R. I wanted to test the rumor that one could get US dollars from the ATM machines there. I must have hit over half a dozen banks trying to get dollars from my US based CC but could never get it to work. Finally I asked the clerk at the hotel I was staying and she suggested I try the casinos in town. Montevideo has two casinos, one on the 18th of July Ave. uptown and the other one near the Artigas Square close to where I was staying. So I walked over and before entering I asked the security guy at the door where the ATM machines were.
They were inside right by the door, so I went over to them swiped my Amex card, requested $100 and just like that a large head very mint Franklyn C note came out. Well, BA has casinos so I wouldn’t be surprised if you could do it here too. BTW the one in Puerto Madero is open 24 hrs. Good luck.

Exactly a year ago there was no way to get dollars in Puerto Madero casino. Not just that it wasn't possible to get dollars but it also wasn't possible to withdraw pesos at the cash desk if your card wasn't issued in Argentina.
