I'm still trying to figure out whether it makes sense to apply for temporary/permanent residency or continue as a yearly tourist, and a lot has to do with taxes. I read online various 'facts' as to how long you reside in country before becoming a tax resident (after 9 months a year? after 12 months in 2 years? or is it 12 consecutive months at any time, even spread across two years?).
Is a permanent resident automatically a tax resident? Or is it subject to how long you spend in-country, like temporary resident?
Then, if you own a residence abroad, is it subject to wealth tax, or just assets acquired after you become a resident?
What about a joint account you have with a non-resident?
If anyone knows of an expert in both immigration and taxation who is available for a (paid) consult, let me know! I get the feeling people are solid in one aspect and guessing on the other.
