You are not the first amigo. Bienvenido al club.

:)

On September the 2nd I asked for legal residency at DNM because of the citizenship file in about 20 cases. They start replying on Friday.

One of those cases had a deportation order from 2009. Tomorrow I appeal it and they will give him legal residency.

In another 2 cases they ask for a Judge certificate of the citizenship procedure. So, it seems to be working.

I'm not steveninba but the answer is no, the US will not revoke your citizenship. In fact, people who want to get rid of their US citizenship have quite a process to go through and have to pay a rather hefty fee to get the job done. Dual citizenship is perfectly legal in the U.S.

This is a funny to me because I'm a soccer (fútbol) fan.

Nearly every year an up-and-coming US soccer player obtains dual citizenship from a country in Europe through a parent or grandparent so that he can sidestep labor laws for non-Europeans (especially in England) in an effort to make more money and play at a higher level so that he can play a more important role on the US national team.

Nearly half the US team has dual citizenship.

This question has been obvious for over 20 years (became aware of it for the '90 World Cup) and it makes me chuckle when there are still people who think that the US doesn't allow dual citizenship.

I just thought that I would use a news story from today to help convey that it's ok to have US Citizenship and maybe a couple more even (like my friend who has US + 2 others).

CHICAGO -- German-born defender Alfredo Morales and midfielder Fabian Johnson are among 22 players selected for the U.S. roster for upcoming games at France and Slovenia and could make their national team debuts.

Morales, a 21-year-old with Hertha Berlin, also is eligible to play for Peru, where his parents were born. He made his debut for Hertha Berlin last December.

Johnson, a 23-year-old with Hoffenheim, started for Germany in the final of the Under-21 European Championship two years ago and switched allegiance to the United States in August.

So Alfredo may have 3 passports and ol' Fabian is happy with just two.

You can have as many passports. Only certain countries like Germany and Swiss don't allow it, but even there there are ways around

Considering the example used found 2 Germans who found a way around it, I think that that goes without saying.

Germans have to apply for a permission for having dual citizenship. They have to evidence that they have links strong enough with Germany, for example, to have inheritance rights, real state, an University degree in Germany, etc. There is a special Court for that and the procedure takes about 8 months.

Regarding Switzeland, I think that the info is wrong, I have some clients who already have dual citizenship and they applying for the Argentine.

Yip. There are ways around. Plenty of folks from exYU and Turkey did it as well. One of ways you can hold dual citizenship in Germany is if your native country doesn't permit foreigners to own / inherit properties

Update:
1. Chinese case I won at the chamber but the judge was reluctant to enforze the chamber sentence.

After I presented the appeal before the Supreme Court complaining about this case, the judge had a meeting with me and he agreed to order the reports.

Today he did it. It took 1 year and 4 days but the case is on. Today the solicitant was at my office and she was very happy because this is the only chance she has to regularize herself.

2. I started another 2 cases under the same judge. One 4 weeks ago, the second 2 weeks ago. The reports of the first case were granted today, it took 1 month. The second case is too green yet.

So, now that the judge changed his mind, the reports delays 1 month instead of 1 year :D. Not bad.

3. There are 3 cases ready for sentence (all the reports were answered). 1 of them applied with passport, 1 with DNI but he works under the table and the 3erd has DNI and legal work. We are waiting for the certificate of good behaviour of their home countries for the sentence.

a. Only passport. The case was started on November 26th 2010. The reports were ordered on March after an intense debate regarding that to aplly being irregular and to work under the table are ok for citizenship.

b. DNI but trabajo en negro: The case was started on October 21 2010 but the reports were ordered on February 7th after an intense debate regarding that to work under the table is an honest way of living.

c. DNI with legal work: The case was started on december 14th 2010 and the reports were ordered on december 21th.

laureltp - the US will not, I believe, revoke your citizenship - they used to but now dual citizenship is permitted. However the US is unique in the world in basing taxation on citizenship and not residency, so US citizens always owe income tax on their global income to the US government. A friend of mine, US citizen by birth but never lived their beyond diapers just had to make an expensive settlement with the US government for a life-time of taxation, even though she has always paid her taxes to her country of residence and dual citizenship(Canada). So I suspect for US expats in Argentina residence and/or citizenship could well lead to double taxation, as the Argentines base their taxation on residency for more than 6 months of the year. It has suddenly occured to me that this could be why so many american expats seem to be permatourists and don't want to become legal residents.
