What's waiting time for a citizenship approval? I'm a EU national and an illegal immigrant in Argentina as of last 3 years. No visa runs, no renewals at Migraciones

Depends on where do you live. But the standard is between 7 up to 18 months.

I'm not a specialist in in immigration law but I know in July/2010 there was a lead case: Zunino Ignacio s/Petición, that established that you can't resign citizenship... Anyway check with a specialist... Good luck!

Argentinian citizenship cannot be resigned ;)

I won another appeal but at another jurisdiction.

This one is great. The chamber said:

1. The simulation is legal is this country (to own a busisness but to have it under somebody'selse name);
2. The witnesses are proper evidence but they should be interrogated by the prosecutor and the attorney.
3. DNI or passport is enough;
4. Honest way of living means to have an honest work not to be the owner of the supermarket;
5. To have a partner is alike marrige regarding common economic interest and plans;
6. To apply immigration rules at the citizenship procedure is a huge mistake.

And I won another 7 revocatorias this week (Revocatoria is an appeal before the same judge. Usually I appeal with the revocatoria). That's because the 3 rooms of the chamber agreed, so judges are begining to follow those precedents.

In one of the cases where the solicitant evaded the frontier control, the prosecutor opinion was that this fact is irrelevant because this is regarding the immigration law, so the reports were enacted.

The prosecutor gave his opinion regarding the languaje test clarifying that they can only double check that the solicitant speaks minimum Spanish (Many judges were asking for a writen test regarding the National Constitution).

However, I have some appeals at the chamber regarding the languaje test. This is going to be decided at Supreme Court. I claim that the languaje test is abolished.

Capital Federal, but can get address / move temporarily to Bariloche or Posadas too

How do I start the procedure? What paperwork is needed?

Just go to the federal court (juzgada federal) closest to where you live (or want to live) and ask for the requisites.

You don't even have to speak good Spanish.

Just ask, "Quiero saber como puedo estar ciudania?"

They'll give you a list (which may vary from court to court).

You won't need nearly as much paperwork as applying for residency.

Please refer to the thread: Argentine Citizenship for foreigners: can it really be this easy?

I'm fully fluent in Spanish, even lunfardo.

Is there a (greasy hand) way to speed up the procedure?

Thanks Steve and Bajo Cero

I am reading this now, I am getting scared. My husband was born in Ohio and then his parents moved them back to Argentina when he was 5. He has a US Passport and an Argentine one. Now the reason I am not legal yet, is because my husband is trying to get his ID card, and they are not giving it to him right away, they had told him it should take up to a year. For some reason he isn't worried about it. He would visit Argentina once a year, but I believe using his US Passport. He works here, recieves benefits, he just doesn't vote.

Why would you want to speed it up...or jeopardize it by doing something "unwise?"

Need to travel overseas soon. But, if I can travel while my application pending, then no need to do that.

I suggest you ask the secretary of the court where you will submit your application. When I submitted mine I was told I would be called in two months to go to the police station to have my fingerprints taken. The policed called at the end of the third month. That was two months ago. I haven't heard anything from the court since then. If I wanted to leave the country at this point I would call the court first just to be sure I didn't miss the next step.
