Well I'm not "steveinba" but the answer is no. You have to go through a big rigamarole to renounce your US citizenship and they are passing even an exit tax, thta you have to pay if you do (I don't think it's in effect yet and would only apply to certain asset levels) plus I read that renunciations are a year behind in the US because of the number of people doing that. The reported number doing that this year was just over 500 so it doesn't seem like that would cause a backup. So not to worry. Dual citizenship is legal in the US and, in fact, they are very reluctant to let you go.
I really apologize. I guess I don't understand this forum. I thought I was posting the above right under the question of whether you would lose your US citizenship if you got Argentine citizenship. I would just delete it but I don't know if that's possible. But maybe it will be helpful anyway to someone.I think I should have quoted the message in the reply.

If you are married to an Argentine citizen or a foreigner with permanent residency I think you can apply for permanent residency without ever having temporary residency.

Steve, he asked about the 6 months rule. Even he can apply immediately for permanent residency, he is going to have issues later because he is less than 6 months a year in Argentina, so, he should apply for citizenship.

Doesn't permanent residency only require physical presence in Argentina ONE DAY in two years while temporary residency requires six months presence per year?
