Argentinean Rock

That's nice. It steps away from the typical national rock I hear blasting from home stereos which has a particular quality I find annoying, that the singing is more like shouting at a futbal game. I'm curious, as classic/alternative rock fan (e.g. Santana, SRV, Led Zeppelin, Audioslave, Mana), are there some local bands along those lines? Also I'm a guitar player, so I enjoy a good guitarist.

Glad you like it! :)

Yes, Cerati was good, very different to the kind of music people do today. Unfortuneatly We had a lost generation due to the crisis (Cumbia Villera) and the quality of the rock bands in these days are really bad! Not all but most of them.

If you want to hear good Argentinean Rock you have to go back to the 70's, 80's and the begining of the 90's

For example I love Spinetta, and in my opninion this is the best album:

Then you have vox dei and la biblia:

and Manal, the first Blues band in Argentina (I think):

All of them form the 60's and 70's.

And from the 80's:

Patricio Rey and Oktubre, their best album:

Sumo:

And Soda Estero (Cerati's band):

The 90's:

Divididos:

Fito (more pop than rock I think...):

Ant the only album worth listening in the 2000's dacade is Jessico:

(sorry but I do not have the Link)

Sorry for the list, a bit long.

Good argentine guitarrist: Pappo, Ricardo mollo, Walter Giardino, David Lebon, Julio Salinas...

Saludos!

No need to apologize, and indeed thank you for the detailed answer! I'm long long overdue for an Argentinean rock music appreciation class.

Checking out kemer's list, I discovered I especially like Divididos.

Soda stereo is (was :( ) amazing and poor Cerati was very good too

Indie rock bands now, i like "El mato a un policía motorizado"

Although there are dozens of Argentine bands I really like, I find most "rock nacional" to be recycled bad FM american bands from the 80's.

But if you like Santana, then you might like Morba y Mambo, a band from Mar de Plata. Live, they rip the roof off the place. The chica is muy fuerte- she reminds me of Andy Gill from the Gang of Four in her fierce guitar attack live- and the horns, drums, and electronics make for a Miles Davis/ Fela Kuti type wall of sound.

Great thread!

I am going to add two that I like though they are (mostly) Uruguayan;
