Argentinean Rock

Another one I like, Kevin Johansen (Argentinean/American)... Here singing in a mix of English & Porteno (keeping on purpose an English accent singing the Spanish words).

Could be the anthem of this forum:

"And all the people that arent from here would like to come and stay
And all the people that are from here just want to get away"

Soda stereo is (was :( ) amazing and poor Cerati was very good too

Indie rock bands now, i like "El mato a un policía motorizado"

Wow, that's quite a setting for the music video. I looked up Villa Epecuén
http://en.wikipedia....i/Villa_Epecuén
I like that - "Today the town has a lone resident, Pablo Novak, who returned to his home after the flood waters receded."
Would be a good setting for a full fledged zombie movie or the like.

In fact at the in-laws the house is overwhelmingly flooded with K-pop. My suegra is from Paraguay though, and I always get a kick out of this one, it is Argentine, but cumbia (by Damas Gratis):"[/background]

[background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]For the suegra, a bit of Rock from Paraguay by La Secreta...one of my favourites[/background]

Thank you! I was WAITING for someone to mention him and the Nada. Went to the concert recently. It was really really good! Not that surprised, he had Liniers there as well. ;)
He has a new album out, BI, with one of my new favorite songs: Baja a la Tierra

Yes, he's great (I didn't even post his best song).
He sometimes gives concerts in this small place in San Telmo (forgot the name), which has like 3/400 people max in it (much more "personal" experience since he sings among the audience as well) and is way better than going to an Hippodromo or at Gran Rex.

He even sings in French at times, truly international guy.

My fav' by him (lyrics by Jorge Drexler... yeah!)

Love that song too! I have many of his records. One of my favorite songs of his is Anoche soñe contigo (as well as Sur o no Sur for obvious reasons ;) ).
We went to the small venue around Christmas time. It was really nice and I would love to go again but he is only playing in Mar del Plata now. Oh well!

It seems to me there is a thread of reggae or even sometimes something like ska running through the rock or pop music here. In the back of my mind I find myself asking - wow, how did that get here? But I guess music just travels across borders faster than anything. Maybe it's a kind of rhythmic feel that rests comfortably alongside the more latin styles. This one for instance was playing constantly in all parts of my neighborhood some while back. The lyrics don't do much for me but I really do like the melody and feel of this overplayed song.

I would agree that ska is a big influence - El cuarteto de nos, for example, sound a lot like Sublime, the so-cal ska/punk band of the 80's.
I saw them play live last year at El Teatro, and they were, like, totally ska.
