Just back from the Abasto. On the way back my wife and i were walking along Corrientes 2 blocks away from the Abasto and we saw a youngish man talking to a girl and he was holding a stick.

The guy was slightly taller than your average argie, baseball cap and tracksuit. He looked a bit like Di Maria but darker. The girl looked chavy and was short.

As we passed they started walking behind us and i noticed that 3 young teens came across the street from a peruvian restaurant. I looked back and saw that the guy with the stick had sped up so immediately grabbed my wife and went to cross the road. One of the teens shouted something at us and were moving towards us as we were trying to cross but i didn't hear what he said. There were cars coming and because we had started to cross they beeped their horns and we managed to create a small "scene" that i scared them away.

When we got to the other side of the road we met a young couple who said they had tried exactly the same thing on them and they had called the police on them.

They didn't speak with porteno accents and used tu instead of vos.

I'm raging just now and just thought i would share.

First time anything like this has happened and i'm glad that nothing actually happened to us.

I'm also surprised as i am 6ft 5 and that didn't actually scare away the closest teen who couldn't have been more than 14 or make them decide that we weren't good targets in the first place!

The fact that only 2 blocks further down there was a police speed trap and these arseholes are just there doing whatever they fucking like and no one stops them.

Its pure shite!

The incompetence of the police here emboldens the robbers. Minors know no one will touch them no matter what they do so that emboldens them. On top of that, the attitude of Argentines where if you get robbed YOU must have done something wrong, doesn't help either.

Glad you and your wife are alright.

Pure shite indeed and glad you guys are safe. It's probably BECAUSE you're 6ft 5 that they singled you out as a wealthy foreigner with money, gold and jewels stashed on your person so try being a wee bit shorter for goodness sake...:D

Sorry to hear about your incident there Scott, glad to hear you and your wife are alright.

'Pure' and 'shite' :D

Glaswegian by any chance?

Hey I am really sorry to hear what happened. I had the pleasure of meeting you and your wife if you remember when you purchased the microwave. While these incidents are scary I am glad it turned out that nothing more happened to you both. These incidents make ME so angry, a man and his wife walking in the street bothering nobody and these bottom feeders dregs of society think they can come up upon you and threaten, or rob or possibly worse. THINGS HAVE GOTTA START CHANGING, THE ANGER IS STARTING TO BOIL OVER!!

Yes, I'm really relieved nothing happened to you & your wife but still, you had to risk crossing the road in a hurry.

As a rule of thumb, when they are half your size & don't show any fear....they are usually armed...something gives them the feeling of confidence.

Sorry to sound like I'm repeating something but let's not forget, the federal police are controlled by Kretina.
The police are deliberately encouraged to not do too much as it's Macri's territory anyway.

The thugs with a foreign Spanish accent are encouraged to come here with the social plans that kretina offers them...so yes... it makes my blood boil to hear about it too.

So it would be better for us if they voted Macri out for one of the K's? Or if Macri's impotent Met Police could somehow get better?

I feel like I am in the middle of a goddam mob war here!

The K's control the federal police, and lets not forget that most of her support comes from those very people who wanted to rob you.

My wife spoke with the city police one time, and they said that they were not allowed to do anything if something happened. They can basically arrive at the scene and then wait for the policia federal to arrive.

So good luck getting the police to do anything. It is every one for themselves here in BA. Just keep your eyes peeled and you should be ok.

Scotttswan, I am glad that you and your wife are ok. You did a good job to avoid getting into an even worse situation.

If they were teenagers, they really don't care - it's not as though anything would happen to them even IF they were caught, tried and convicted. (not saying children should be sent to jail but the system seems to be extreme in not levying any type of punishment on child offenders).

Sorry to hear and glad you are safe.

When someone tried to rob me in the middle of the afternoon, right on Maure and Libertador, less than a block from where a police officer was standing, I was just SO angry. Angry at the kid that tried it (and failed) but more angry that this could and does happen here and no matter how smart you are, there is nothing you can do to protect yourself from it.

"not saying children should be sent to jail"

I am! Something called "reform school" or some such version of it is long overdue here. Get the violent thugs off the street regardless of their age. ZERO tolerance. And for the record, once teenagers hit adolescence they are no longer "children", but "young adults".
