You might be able to appeal, but I think the best path is to pursue a fiance visa or similar. Many countries forgive past immigration transgressions when marriage enters the equation.
As an aside, governments around the world want two things - they want to know who is entering the country, and if staying longer than 90 continuous days or more than 180 days in a year, they want those who enter to choose a legal pathway to residency. Because then you become a taxpayer. It's really no different between provinces in Canada or between different states in the US.
